I’ve been having an issue with my gps not working and the Uconnect rebooting while driving. Apparently this is a known issue and was caused by a botched ota update. They want me to take it into the dealership. The problem is I’m out of warranty. UConnect wants me to pay to have their mistake fixed!!! It’s honestly not a hard fix. All I need are the update files. The problem is, I’m not getting them ota, because their system says I already have it. Their website says I don’t have it, but when I download the update, it’s missing the iso file. Anyone have the most recent update for a 2016 Trailhawk? uconnect_ra4_18.50.35_bu_my15-17 released 2019-11-01 No service bulletin id
These are the files included. I’m wondering if I could simply rename the .upd file to .iso. The file size suggests it is the iso but named incorrectly.
I have the UCONNECT_RA4_18.50.35_BU_MY15-17 update. I have to agree with @Eoseitz It does not have an ISO (Disk Image File) file, but it does have a UPD file. I am going to try and do the update in the morning. *Nope it didn't work! I used a PNY 32GB flash drive per their recommendation and I still got a file not supported error. So, I called uconnect again. I talk with Jacob whom actually was very helpful, and more knowledgeable then the first two that I talk with. Kingston. Kingston flash drive does not have hidden files that help improve performance on their flash drives. When you use a flash drive with these hidden files, the radio reads these files and will give us the files not supported error. So, again. I ordered another flash drive. A Kingston 16GB USB Flash Drive 2.0. The five (5) files that come with the update download have to be on the flash drive. The files have to be extracted from the zip file and then the five files need to be copied to the flash drive. DO NOT copy the folder with the five files, just copy the five files to the USB flash drive. The .upd is a backup. An .iso is an Disk Image File. This update requires a restore of a known good system file system (a backup). That is why there are 5 files (a backup), and not just 1 image file. idk why.
So the five files in the zip files are correct? For some reason I thought the updates came as an iso. I’m currently using an 8 gb Kingston jump drive. I’ll try a different one.
Your Kingston 8GB jump drive should do the trick. uconnect said that the Kingston is the only brand that is working for their update. Just remember to extract the five files from the zip, and copy only the five files to the jump drive.
Ive tied 2 Kingston data travelers, a pnc and a San Disc. None work. I’ve redone loaded just to make sure it wasn’t a faulty download. It’s looks good and then error. I’m Going to try extracting with 7zip with restore security permissions. If that doesn’t work I’ll try another pc. At that point it has to be a Uconnect issue or the files.
I already called Uconnect. They started off by saying I already had the update. Then I read them the version number and told them their website (driveuconnect.com) says I have an update available. Then they admitted a lot of people are having issues and told me to take it to a dealership. When I told them I was out of warranty, they said it’s the only fix. They said to take it in and have the mechanics call them. I can submit a reimbursement form and “might” be reimbursed. At shop prices I really don’t want to deal with “might”. I read a few other posts and it can take hours to fix. I’m so disappointed with Jeep and Uconnect. If this is a known issue, it should be addressed. Not my first rodeo with Fiat, Chrysler, Jeep products. It really makes me consider not buying another one. I’ve already had the Renegade in the shop for randomly shutting off, poor shifting, and fan recall. (Luckily these were right before my warranty ended) Now I’m experiencing low mpg (around 21 when I drive only highways) and a service parking brake message randomly coming on with no stored codes. This Uconnect things just puts the icing on the cake.
After having a discussion with the dealership and Uconnect, it turns out that this is a VERY well known issue and Uconnect has been paying the dealerships to fix it for customers (they pay the dealership directly, not a customer reimbursement). I’ll be taking it in Saturday for the fix. If I can get a service bulletin while I’m at the dealership, I’ll post it in case anyone else has this issue.
Awesome, good to hear! It still sucks that Uconnect just won't send us the update on one of their flash drives.
I have a feeling they are going to factory default the Uconnect from the engineer menu and then reinstall the updates. I could be wrong, but it would explain why you can’t do it yourself. They don’t want customers knowing how to access the menu.
Hi everyone, I'm sorry to hear you're having concerns with the update. The files for software level 18.45.01 are currently available on driveUconnect.com. I would recommend checking if this update is available for your vehicle. If so, you will be able to download the software to a USB and update your vehicle at home. We recommend using a Kingston USB no smaller than 4GB. Also, please be sure nothing else is on the USB when you go to download the files. If you're still having concerns I would be happy to open a case for you and get this escalated to a Uconnect specialist. Alison JeepCares
I got the Jeep back from the dealership. They said they were able to update it. It only took about an hour and I was happy it was “fixed”. Drove it home and out of curiosity looked at the firmware version. It is still at 18.37.31 (the exact same version I had when I took it in). When I go to driveuconnect the only available download is for 18.50.35. This is the update I had been trying to install and it says invalid iso. Not sure if I should call the dealership back or Uconnect.

I've been trying to install this update UCONNECT_RA4_18.50.35_BU_MY15-17 as well. Just got the Jeep used a couple weeks ago. I tried multiple computers, about 4 thumb drives, the last being Kingston. Always says file type unsupported. Guess I will have to schedule at the Jeep dealer? Currently it is on some level of 17.xx update. The only issue I have with the Uconnect is occasionally when starting, the GPS won't acquire satellites - then it won't acquire them after that until I shut down and restart the car.
Hi Alison, I'm also having trouble with the UCONNECT_RA4_18.50.35_BU_MY15-17 update. Error: Failed to authenticate .iso. Can you help please?
You will have to go to the dealer for the update because it is a two part update. Uconnect isn't providing us with the updated needed to get us to 18.+ I do not remember which update number changes to the new file system. If I remember correctly, the old update is performed by a .zip file and the new updates are performed through .iso files. There is an update after 17.43.xx which changes the firmware to read this new update file system. Only the dealer has access to the older update which will update the uconnect firmware to read the new .iso format.
Hi, I'm sorry to hear this is happening. Please DM us with more details so I can look into this further. Alison JeepCares
