Has anyone ever figured this one out? I've had mine at the dealers a few time. Had the rear diff replaced. Still growls at 30 mph. They know nothing.

What do you mean by rumble? Auto or manual?

My girls a 9spd and I don't really feel rumble around 30. Around 55-65 though she wobbles a bit. Probably an alignment in my case. Perhaps it's in yours as well?

No it's drive train related. Goes away when you turn traction control off, put it in manual shift, put it in 4x4 mode or if it's below freezing. Only happens between 30 and 40 mph. Oh and it's auto.

I thought there was a big discussion on here about it but I couldn't find anything.

The issue is with the rear differential and rear differential module. The replacement of these should take care of the issue. From my understanding it is due to the 4 wheel drive system that is not fully disengaging. This is also temperature sensitive and should not occur below 38 degrees Fahrenheit ambient temperature.

As a new TH owner, I just discovered the "renegade rumble" online. I did some more research and learned that in Italy they appear to be resolving this issue now. It doesn't sound like a very big deal, to be honest. I'll paste what he said in the Renegade Forum. But first, I'll say this. I've owned many 4wd vehicles and none have been without some sort of driveline vibration, noise, etc. My 2010 CR-V, my 2013 Tacoma, and my 2016 Tacoma have all had some sort of strange vibrations at certain speeds that never impacted their long term reliability. For now, I would suggest not sweating it. Though I do understand how upsetting it is for a brand new vehicle to have strange quirks.

Now, here's the copy/paste from the renegade forums that seemed to be a real solution:

    Hi guys!
Looks like there's a fix for that here in Italy. It does not apply to every VIN, but it seems to work on some Renegades.

First of all, seems like the issue, at least in its most common form, is due to a RDM actuator that does not fully disengage the shaft when needed. And that's what everyone was thinking about.

Via remote link the tech guys are basically "recalibrating" the actuator and the noise is gone.
We have several threads on our italian forum about the noise, but the one dealing about this solution – and specifically the first user talking about this – is here:
    http://jeeprenegade.forumfree.it/?t=...entry607491687
I think you'll be able to get at least the meaning using Google Translator.

Anyway that's not an "official answer" to the problem, as far as I know there are no official service bulletins about that, anyway try asking your dealer (or a FCA tech supervisor...). It's worth a try as it's surely cheaper, for Jeep, than another read diff replacement!

    Ciao!
    Claudio

Hey @TNix do you still have the eibach springs on?
I’ve bought them I. Hopes of installing them but haven’t yet because I don’t want The dealer to void my warranty if I try to investigate this hum problem with the new springs on

Just popping back in with an update. I did the RRO 1.58" lift and alignment on our 2018 trailhawk and the rumble vanished.

(But unfortunately now the lift is making some crunchy/popping sounds from the struts and the shop has cited the kit as either being defective or needing redesign, so I can't recommend RRO at the moment. Traded one noise for another. The shop is gonna try contacting them next week to see what the solution is.)

Darn man that is unfortunate I hope it all gets sorted out. I’m kind of wanting to just stick with the spring lift for my needs

    Check your sway bar links.
I have noticed that a lot of the after market sway bar links are crap (Teraflex, Avid, DayStar) as they don't take into account the uni-body of the Renegade, and that the sway bar works for suspension (up down) as well as turning (left right) motion of the Jeep. And with the after market sway bar links, they will clunk on bumps.
Look into the Daystar sway bar bracket, which will allow you to use the OEM sway bar link.

I have an '18 Latitude 4x2 that I recently noticed makes a growling noise between 28-30mph at cruising speed. I was curious so i put the 9speed auto into manual mode and kept the same gear and noticed it came and went with throttle, usually on a deceleration. My guess is that its some kind of resonant frequency coming from the transmission itself and not from a rear diff/driveline issue. Its annoying but seems pretty normal considering how many internal gears these 9speed transissions have. I have about 28k on my clock and just recently noticed this during a commute to work.

I have a 2016 TH and before that had a 2018 Latitude. Both have the growl between 30-40 mph. Has anyone had success with going into their local dealer and getting this fixed? Are there long term issues if it's not addressed?

My 2016 Trailhawk has the growl, but it is an RPM thing; between 4000 and 4600 RPM.
Very noticeable going through the snorkel.
It sounds to me that is a resignation thing in the air induction system.

First thing I checked. Turned out to be that RRO had used the wrong gauge steel on the spacer flanges, so they were bending, causing the entire strut to wobble. The solution was a replacement set of spacers, but the off-road shop took it a step further and welded torque tubes into the bolt holes to reinforce the structure of the entire spacer. No issues now.

RRO was difficult to deal with during the RMA process. I had the parts ordered and installed through a reputable shop here in San Antonio. RRO told my shop they wanted the defective parts back before they would mail the replacements. Essentially forcing us to remove the lift, reaccomplish alignment, wait for parts, reinstall new lift, perform another alignment. A lot of time/money out of the shop's pocket or mine because of their defective manufacturing. They initially declined to ship new parts to the shop in good faith that the old ones would be returned. In the end I had to personally contact them and literally beg them to send parts in advance. My fiancee needs a car and we aren't all made of money to be throwing labor or money into the wind.

Long and the short of it, I no longer feel any rumble. They did actually modify the exhaust brackets for more clearance after the install. I don't know if the rumble actually was driveline or resonance. Whatever it was, it's gone now.

And I'm solidly on the fence about RRO now. They did pull through after weeks of arguing and begging. My off-road shop, however, has totally blacklisted them based off of my experience and whatever conversations they had with the management.

To answer your question, to the best of my knowledge and research, there are no known long term issues with regard to the rumble. Every vehicle has quirks. Especially vehicles that come with slight modifications over base models. My TRD Tacoma has the infamous driveline vibration that Toyota never could sort out. They eventually offered a steering dampener as the solution. In other words, the vibration is still there, you just don't feel it in the steering wheel anymore.

Before I got the pleasant surprise of the rumble disappearing after my lift kit installation, I was totally comfortable living with it. My advice to you is just don't sweat it. Doesn't seem to cause problems and it only happens under specific conditions.

If it does bother you, just find some good old fashioned knobbies for it. The tire noise and vibration on a beefy tire will overpower that rumble for sure!

New guy here tried to search but cant seem to find a clear answer.
Does this rumble affect 4x4 only? What about FWD only? Non 4x4 equipped models do you still have this problem?
    Thanks

I don't think I'll know if my 'new to me' TH has the rumble until I get to drive it! My wife can't hear ANY unusual noises in her vehicles. Drives me nuts but doesn't bother her! And it does have pretty agressive tires (I don't recall the brand/model) and a fair amount of tire howl so may never know if it has The Growl.
