Greetings! I have a 2017 Trailhawk and i've been doing the prerequisite research. I can't find anything fairly recent on wheel and tire options. Maybe that's because there IS nothing new? The BFG KO2's in a 225/65/17 are quite difficult to come by in my area at the moment. Online options tell me I have to wait until the end of July. BOO! No local tire shops can get them either. So now I am considering a 16 inch wheel and tire option for the TH and I'm looking for opinions. *** I have the AVID 2 inch lift and Supreme Engineering Technologies 1.5 inch wheel spacers on the way. *** I'll be using the TH on the street daily while also hitting the sand on the beach on the weekends. I'm hoping the wheel and tire guru known as "IDoMyOwnRacing" can point me in the right direction. All other opinions will be considered as well. Thanks in advance.
Welcome to the forum. There are other brands that make a good off road tire, Pirelli, Toyo, Yokohama, Falken, etc. IDoMyOwnRacing can definitely provide you some great info and frequents the forum on a pretty regular basis. His knowledge is not just about tires, he knows a lot. Do you fish the beaches? Check out this thread, not sure if they are still available. https://www.toasterjeep.com/index.php?threads/ko2-225-65-17-for-sale.3244/ Good luck with your tire selection.
Thanks for the info. I don't fish on the beach. Don't have the patience Lol. Plus I usually just chase my 4 year old daughter and 5 year old son around. I do go off shore canyon fishing with my parents on their boat though. About 100 miles off shore. The only thing I usually catch is sunburn . So I just go to watch everyone else. Lol
Other brands in the 17" range I've run are Toyo Open Country AT II 235/65r17 and Pirelli Scorpion AT+ 225/65r17 (Currently) with an Avid 2.5" lift and 1.5 Spacers. both rubbed, but with the pinch seam trimmed a little, the Pirelli's are good now, and I've been really happy with them both on and off road... What I think would be a good choice also would be the Yokohoma Geolander M/T G003 in a 225/65r17.. but I Couldn't find any when I last needed tires, I understand they aer much easier to get now. I don't have any input on 16" tires though, I never tried any cuz i like the stock Trailhawk rims so much..
If you are looking for a tire at 16" that fits stock, you can go all the way up to a 235/70/16. If you put on spacers, you will need to knock that down a bit to avoid rubbing on the pinch weld. I would recommend the same size as IDMOR suggested, but in a 16, a la 225/65/16. You might get by on a 225/70/16, hadn't run the numbers myself on that one. As far as brand goes, teh KO2s are typically an LT at that size and that's pretty heavy for our little renegades. I would suggest a Pirelli, Falken, or Hankook. I personally have the Hankook Dynapro ATM2s and they have been fantastic out here in CO. I know several people on teh forums have gone with the Falken Wildpeak and they like them. I will also be shifting down to a 225/70/16 after these ones wear out just for the pinch seam weld clearance with a spacer (I am running a 1 inch spacer).
