I went cheap. Thule bike rack and a $50 Gate from Home Depo. Very little noise. But an old mouse pad between the rials and rack contacts.

What's on the front of your Jeep?
Guess I should clarify...the black paint.

It is a 3M 10yr vinyl wrap as a paint protector.

Just picked up my '17 Sport with side rails yesterday and looking at roof basket options. Leaning towards either the Yakima MegaWarrior (w/extension) or the Surco Safari Rack 60x45 for factory side rails. I've scoured the forums and haven't seen anyone with the Surco setup. Anyone have photos of the Surco basket on a Renegade?

I haven't seen any, but here's my Smurf with a Mega Warrior Roof Rack with the extension on Yakima Core bars and Yakima Timberline Towers. I load it like crazy, no issues. I've used Yakima systems for years and have never had an issue, quality build and tons of accesories and lock options. 20171009_170114-EFFECTS.jpg 20171107_153832.jpg 20170830_172657.jpg 20170619_193628.jpg

Your earlier post is what led me to the MegaWarrior in the first place :)

Right on, that's what the forum is about! If you dig into the Yakima accessories you'll find light brackets, shovel brackets, locks for the towers, basket and gear, spare tire holders, gear nets and all kinds of bike, ski and boat stuff. Good luck!

Just received the set of used crossbars I ordered off of eBay. What’s the best position, in terms of wind noise, for the crossbars to be in? More toward the front or back? Once it warms up again, I’m going to carry a kayak up there. Thanks.

Bring your bars back, at least a couple feet from the front.

Did you Plastidip your grill? What paint/plastidip color matches the Mojave Sand color?

I experimented with multiple locations on the roof, and yes it does matter, to minimize the losses. At dead center I lost about 2.5 mpg at highway speeds.

Recently, I removed the air spoiler that mounts to the front of the rack. I've attached the before and after pictures. With the spoiler removed I'm not losing any MPG, but there is noticeable winded noise through the bars with the rack mounted in the middle. On the plus side I've now moved the rack to the rear were the noise is less, and it makes it much easier to load the rack since I can now stand on the rear tires. Best of both worlds.

I didn't like the plastic lower brackets that came with the Yakima basket. I had some 10 gauge stainless steel straps made at work today and installed those instead. There is neoprene between the stainless steel and the bars. They were "formed in place."
