Hi, anyone have the RRO rock sliders? I'm leaning heavily towards picking up a set of them over the Daystar's since they're both cheaper and offer a step on the side. Specifically, I'd like to know ease of install and especially the performance of them off roading. We have a TON of rocks on the trails in VA, so being able to rely on these to protect the Jeep is essential.
I'm ordering a set of these this week, and I'll let you know my thoughts on them when I get them... Hell, If you're bored when I install them you can trek on down to Fredericksburg and check them out...
Well, Ordered them, but there's quite a lead time... 6 Weeks... I'll keep you posted on when I install them though.
Haha, be careful what you wish for, I might take you up on that. 6 weeks is a long time though, not sure I'm patient enough to wait that long before I order them.
If you're going to order one or the other anyway, watch the install video on RRO's website.. The guy doing the install talks about both the RRO and Daystar installs, and the RRO seems to be a way better/easier install.
I gave in, couldn't wait six weeks for you to get yours. Ordered mine yesterday, excited for them to come in! And agreed on the install video, looks way easier than what he said you have to do for the Daystars. Plus they're less expensive and I get a step. Not that I feel I'm missing a step, but it could be useful. Should at least help with low brush hitting the doors a little bit.
I wouldn't have had the patience either You might get yours about the same time I get mine too, since they should have pulled out oll the Jigs too weld mine together, they oughta be able to get to yours quicker! The 'Step' is pretty important wheeling around here.. Even in GWNF there are lots of larger boulders close to the trail, and it's nice to have something sturdy out there to rub them first and warn you before you scrape the doors and fenders across them!
Yeah, I was kinda thinking the same thing. If they have more orders at the same time they'll push them out quicker. Agreed on the 'step', those boulders on the trails in GWNF are no joke!
Nice work on your part, Jermer. Have to admit to some concerns after looking at the third picture in your post though (The picture is great, what it shows is what concerns me!)... the welds look less than impressive, they look sturdy enough, just not very pretty. The powdercoating looks pretty well done though.. Thoughts on the way the front inner fender looks? I can see a speed nut there, and it looks like the whole thing is just exposed at the bottom and will be susceptible to getting caught on things (Rocks). Does it look less exposed in person?
Lol... I was to excited to take the picture. That speed nut was cut off from the inner liner...look alot cleaner after cutting it
Cool, I'm glad you took the pictures quick, and actually love the angle of the third one, it shows a lot of what I wanted to know for the install, Like the nut/bolt location on that bottom lip that weren't clear in the video...
I got the super sliders. It took about 1 1/2 to 2 months to get them. It was a somewhat hard install due to having to drill through the pinch seem. You will go through drill bits fast. I found out quantity is better than quantity. I got a bunch of 1/4" from Harbor Freight and burned through about 20. There is still a hole on each side that I have to do because it is right on a weld. I'm going to have to drop the sliders so I can get at a little bit straighter. But to answer your questions they work as advertised.
Looks good. They sit back from the front wheel well lip about an inch or it looks like. Is that correct?
