How high of a lift before excessive wear?

Hi guys I keep seeing 4" lifts on here, and wondering how much excessive wear does this cost on CV, trans, axles in general? Especially if off roading? Anybody have a 4" lift and put some serious miles on it, notice any issues yet?

It reminds me of the stupidity of wranglers, people throwing dumbass rough country 4-6" lifts, and than having Control Arm Mounts literally ripping out from the Axles, where you had to re-weld and repair them.

Anyway would love to get something as crazy as a 6" lift with tire upgrades, but it just seems that the angles would be all off, and you'll be rebuilding you're whole suspension in no time.

Thoughts from people? Who have lifted? Was thinking the safest is probably a 1.5-2" Spring lift some bigger tires and call it a day.

Got about 3600 mi. on the ATP 2" Spacer lift. No issues. Except the sway bar heim link get grit and dirt in the ball link and makes a creaking noise. but not really an issue for me.

There is an individual on here with 10K miles on his 4" lift and he hasn't had any issues so far. We did the 1.5 and now we want more.

Jeremiah, Yeah Kind of know what what you mean about wanting more lift. After I did the ATP 2" I was like "really, it's lifted" I can't tell the difference. Was thinking about those springs from ATP but I talked to one of the reps. at ATP and he said they are significantly stiffer. Not a big fan of that.

Yeah I might try and source a set of stock trailhawk springs to give ours a little more height.

My renegade came with what I think is a 1.5" lift already installed, not sure the make. The dealership I get it serviced at (not the same one I bought it from) said it had a lift in it. Mine is a Sport, so I put rear springs from the max-optioned trim level in and they help with cargo carrying as well as level the tire fender gaps out. the ATP springs sound like a good way to go though as I find the springs a little soft in the Renegade.

Not sure if you found stock Trailhawk springs yet but I am having ATPs 4" kit installed this Friday 8/16/19, on my 2018 Trailhawk. I don't see why I would need to keep my stock ones afterwards.

Would you be willing to sell or mail your TH springs? I'd be willing to pay for shipping! I'd like to get a little more meat on my 2017 Altitude that has 1.5" TeraFlex lift on it.

Sent you a message. I live in Portland. Let me know what you are thinking on price, or if cost of shipping would cover it....

I am running the AVID 2.5 plus the ATP springs. The ride is awesome!!!

BUT, keep in mind that I also added the AVID Front bumper with Warn 8-S winch, AVID Rear bumper with tire carrier, and Off Road Outfitters rock rails.

The added weight complimented the ATP spring perfectly. I couldn’t ask for a better ride, On Road and Off.

BFG KO2, 225/65R17 on stock Trailhawk rims.
My next set of tire will be BFG KO2 245/65R17 on the stock Trailhawk rims.
… I am also really taking a close look at the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W in 245/65R17.

Hi Ed, your comments on many threads have been really helpful - thanks a lot.

Wanted to ask you, did you ever have issues with your front CV axles, boots or joints? I've just installed the ATP 4.0 and the front CVs sit at approx 19 degrees. I have no idea whether this will cause long-term issues, some seem to say yes and others seem to have no problems after 10's of thousands of miles. Would love your opinion if you happen to see this message?

    Thanks!!

I didn't have any drivetrain issues with my TH using the ATP 4.0 lift.
AND, I turbocharged my 2.4, so my drivetrain thoroughly tested. lol

As long as the front half-shafts are clearing the lower inner portion of the strut, you should be fine. That seems to be the only clearance issue that I can think of.

Nice! Sounds like you would have had problems if you were going to.

My front half shafts are clear of the strut on both sides, so that should be fine. I've attached a photo. I was more worried about the angle of the CV axle and possible extra pressure on the joint.

Hopefully everything remains ok, I feel better knowing you didn't have any issues. Especially with the extra weight you put on yours with the bars and winch, looked awesome by the way!

4.0 ATP lift, wheels and tyres (225/70r17) installed! Very happy with the look and how it drives.

I won't recommend higher than 4, remember physics (motion)...aftermarket accessories are built compatible to model so adjusting these accessories might cause accidents
