has anyone on here installed the avid rear bumper with the tire carrier? And if so how did you route the wires for the license plate light?
I opened the rear hatch, removed the inner panel. I cut the license plate harness at the right license plate bulb, but I gave myself enough room so that if I need to splice it back together I can. I pulled the harness through the rubber boot at the top of the hatch and ran the harness on top of the head liner, down the right rear into the area where you access the right rear taillight assembly. I notched a piece in the body just under the light for the harness to go through, down into the back of the bumper and through the swing arm, up the tire carrier. I installed a connector so when I have to take off the spare tire, I can unplug the license plate light to remove the license plate mount. From under the taillight to the license plate I ran the wire harness through some tubing for protection. Because I cut the harness at the original license plate light, I have a license plate light out indicator. I will go back one day and reconnect the original license plate light just to get rid of the bulb out warning. Sorry, no pics of the work inside of the rear hatch or the routing to the bumper.
Thank you for the reply this helps out a lot. One more question did you have to drill the tire carrier to route the wire loom like you did?
If your Renegade has the tow package, which mine did, You can also use the trailer connector. I used a 12 foot, 4 pin trailer wire harness and just ran the brown and white wires through a piece of split loom through the bumper and tire arm. I terminated the end of the harness into a two pin Delphi WeatherPak connector so if I need to remove the plate I don't have to pull all of it. The rear bumper and arm has plenty of places to pass wiring through, so no need to drill any holes.
I have actually put an aftermarket tow harness on my Renegade. So your saying I can tap into the brown and white wires to get power to the light?
Thats correct. White is the ground. Brown is for marker, plate, and parking lights on the trailer. This has been working perfectly for me for the last year.
