Took a trip out to Death Valley a couple weeks ago and wanted some rubber that wouldn't leave me stranded with shredded sidewalls as well as just better offroad performance overall. Went with Falken Wildpeak A/T3W 235/70r16. Could not be more pleased! I wanted to get the snorkel on before the trip, but after a shipping error with the tires, I didn't have time. Managed to get it on when I got back though. Cutting that 3.5" hole in the fender was nerve racking, but totally worth it. Now I just gotta sort out the trans and diff vents. They're close, but no touchy! :-D My friend got a few pictures of the renny on three wheels and general desert shinanigans. I'll have to post them when she sends them to me. I think next up is either going to be skid plates, or rock sliders. Whichever I do first, the other will be next.
Your Renegade looks great. Great tire choice. Does the tire fit in the wheel well ok? I like the Avid Contour bumper, they did a nice job with it. That is something I have wanted for a while but it has been out of stock for a long time, my Latitude needs some recovery points when I go on the beach. Question, having installed the snorkel does the air pickup get moved up so you can go thru deeper water, if so, how much did you gain? Any videos of your trips? Thanks for posting.
Thanks! The tires fit perfectly without any rubbing. No lift or pinch seam mod. I’m super happy with the bumper. Was a bit of a pain to install, but totally worth the effort. I just wish they would make a rear bumper that matches, but I’ll probably just go with the Radius rear. The snorkel moves the engine air intake all the way up to the roof line. It should be fine for quick crossings, but you’ll need to relocate the differential and transmission vents if you plan on spending a lot of time in deep water. I’ve got a post on the modified board discussing the vents. Oh, and I’ve got one POV video of bumbling along a forest road on the factory tires. Nothing particularly interesting but I can post it if ya want.
The snorkel has an elbow (more on a 'U' shaped plastic tube) that mounts into the stock airbox, goes through the inner fender and faces back towards the rear of the vehicle. A silicon hose connects to that tube and to the snorkel allowing for deeper water. The NEW air inlet level is at the top of the roof, just above the windshield. You would drown before the engine sucks water. lol
Thanks for the reply. By all means post the video if you can. I enjoy watching the Renegades out and about.
Great looking Renegade! We just put Falken Wildpeak A/T Trails on ours. They are a little less aggressive than the 3's, but still a good tread for trail running. We ran them in a 6" snowfall a couple weeks ago and they were simply outstanding. Love the snorkel, btw!
