Off and on for the past few weeks I've had an intermittent service 4WD light come on right after starting it, but restarting would fix it. Today while I was driving, the check engine light and service 4WD light came on. I also noticed at idle there would periodically be a vibration, but it'd only last a few seconds and then go away. Any ideas? Taking it to the dealer Monday morning.
Check engine light went out today, service 4wd remains. Getting a U1440 code, I did a search on google and couldn't find much. It sounds like the code is saying the gear ratio for the transfercase is wrong compared to the transmission.
Jeep DTC Code: U1440 Definition: Implausible Transfer Case Ratio High Received Description: The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is receiving an implausible transfer case ratio message from the Drivetrain Control Module (DTCM). Cause: DRIVETRAIN CONTROL MODULE (DTCM) POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) The DTC (CEL) needs to be reset. If the code comes back, it needs to be taken to the dealer for a possible Power Control Module (PCM).
Interested in what the dealer said. I don't think the U1440 is going to mean the same thing on the Renegade and Compass as it does on other jeeps, since these two jeeps don't have an actual transfer case, and a U1440 on other jeeps would be caused by the sensor to tell if the transfer case is in low range. I'd still bet it's something to do with the PTU (Power Transfer Unit, Similar to a transfer case, but single ratio) since you're also getting that Service 4wd message.. I came up empty on all the google searches I did on it
Sorry you experienced that on such a new Renegade, but at least it's gonna be covered under warranty.
