Did u run into any clearance or rocker problems while finning? Going back there again this spring to try some more. Had to turn back at chicken corner and hurrah pass because of clearance
Since we had a lot planned, we only did the first few miles of Fins n' Things (see picture). I attached a couple pictures of the hardest part. You have to be VERY careful going down that hill. My first attempt left me with my lights buried in the sand, luckily I was able to climb backwards enough to angle properly and get out of it. Other than that, you just need to position yourself right, I had no clearance issues! (The first picture in my first post with my jeep at the top of the hill, we went down that hill and back up another side of the hill. I'll try to post a vid of it). (P.S. I got this image from google because it's a better angle) (This is me)
We only got to this point at Hurrah Pass before we turned around due to gas, so we didn't get to try chicken corners.
Im trying to do follow your footsteps in may. Two questions I have would be, did you bottom out or hit your skid plates at all and is your renegade lifted or are you just running new tires? Awesome thread! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I may have scraped my skid plate a few times but nothing bad. You honestly just need a good spotter and you are fine, this was both me and my spotters first time doing these trails. Granted, he has off-road experience so he knew the good angles. Also, this was a stock Trail Hawk all around. No new tires, no lift. I literally bought it 2 days before I went on this trip to Moab back in July. By the end of this week I will have a 2" lift, front mount winch/brush bar and rock sliders and hopefully a hard mount roof rack (Pictures to come). Then I'll be able to take on more aggressive stuff.
Here is the video of me descending that hard part: This is where I stuck my lights in the sand, had to back up and angle it. Unfortunately he turned the camera off when he thought I got stuck, haha.
On the descent - were you using the hill descent or on the brakes with your foot? How about the climb up?
In the Fin N things descent video I was using the hill descent assist. It's "cool" but not like "must have". I'd say it's a fun feature for those that are unfamiliar with descending hills. As you can tell in the video, the tires still slid on the rock (it was also in 4WD Low "Rock") granted it was a very steep hill. Didn't use downhill descent on the uphill... Not sure why you would? Just 4WD Low "Rock". I scratched the plastic on the bottom of my bumper but it was minimal.
So was that 100% the hill descent at work or did you help it out a little yourself? If it was 100% hill descent only then I am very impressed. If you were giving it a helping foot then the performance was more what I would expect. Definitely don't expect it to help any uphill. I was referring to wanting to see a video of you climbing back up it and bet that's what JustinBalboa was referring to as well. Just imagine where your bumper would be if it were a Sport or Latitude.
It was 100% descent assist in that video (at the end you can see me look down to turn it off). It's pretty impressive, but I like being in control so I don't use it often. The other Video of Baby Lions Back is 100% me. I have a steep hill next to my house. Maybe I'll get you a detailed video showing it sometime. I don't think I have a video of the uphill... Sorry, wasn't very prepared for videoing this trip.
Very impressive then. Definitely makes you closer to your vehicle and having a better feel of what's going on without all the extras, but with hill descent working that well then I can certainly see it helping out people who are new to offroading while they get a handle on it. We all know there are a lot of those people when it comes to the Renegade. I've seen a few other videos where the Renegade just runs out of steam and bogs because of the traction control. That was the main reason I wanted to see the uphill. You did better with video than I always do...I'm one of those - oh shoot, I should have got that on video.
I'll see if I can scrounge one up for ya. The hill I did there was very impressive but I didn't get that on video :/
