The following has happened twice and it's been both embarrassing and dangerous. I stopped and filled up with gas and after pulling away from the pump approximately 20 or 30 feet it stumbled a couple times and than stalled. I kept it running while refueling. Anyone else experience this?

No. I don't know about the Jeeps, but many cars' emissions programming is set up as a closed system, meaning the gas cap (or in our case, the gas door) has to be on to create a sealed tank/fuel delivery loop. Leaving the car running while filling the tank changes what the computer see's from the vacuum/pressure that should be in the tank.

The emissions section of the engine management systems will make fuel/air/timing adjustments to keep the vehicle running within federal emissions levels. With the cap off (fuel door open) the computer is making constant adjustments. When you finish filling the tank and close the filler door the vacuum/pressure in the fuel tank changes again. The engine computer detects changes and the computer starts to make adjustments to the fuel/air/timing settings. When you get on the gas to pull away you are asking the engine to do something while it's settings are still in the middle of being reset.

Again, I don't know how the Jeep is set up, but try filling it with the engine off. Besides, you really aren't saving anything, wear and tear, gas, etc., by leaving it running.

I always leave mine running, mostly because even turning it off for the few minutes it takes to fill it up, the coastal Texas heat will fry whoever is still in the Jeep. Prefer to keep my 4 month old Princess in the cool A/C. ImageUploadedByToasterJeep1476076035.075639.jpg
