I'm a fan of mud guards, others hate them. I think they keep gunk off the sides of the truck others claim they'd get packed with ice/mud and prevent wheel motion. I've had mud guards on all my vehicles and never had them get so iced up that they kept the wheels from turning or stopped the suspension from going up and down and I've heard many a stone come flying off the tire and hit the guard instead of paint. Others say they got so iced up that the engine didn't have enough power to spin the wheels or they were on trails so severe that the mud flaps caused the jeep to get high centered.

Everybody's got a story or opinion so it's entirely up to you.

I will say this about oem mud guards, I have a set ( I might sell) and, again, to me, they stick out just a little too far from the side of the vehicle and kinda break up the lines. I'm now looking at the Weathertech mud flaps for the Renegade. They tuck in just a little tighter on the sides and do not require any cutting or drilling (The stock one require some minor drilling to install plastic pop rivets).

Good luck on what you decide. Take pictures and show us what you did.

I myself like the mudguards on the Renegade. I have seen some on some websites that are just flat style that i like and think would be a good idea because they don't have the lip on the bottom to catch debris.

I live a couple miles off the pavement. I decided to put on the OEM flaps about a week after I got my Rene - a week of rain and mud puddles. They do the job and are not too distracting.

I can see some advantages even more if one has used wheel spacers, the rocker panels are even more readily reached by material thrown from the tread as the tires rotate when the tires stick out further relative to the body. The downside with an OEM rigid style is they're more likely to be damaged when offroad if the wheel slips down into a hole or rut.

If mudflaps/spashguards were in our future I'd consider making them myself out of something rubbery, like taking a commercial heavy truck mudflap and cutting it into a couple of flexible splash guards and then affixing those. That would allow them to deflect, would cost very little, and would allow for me to replace them any time they did finally go bad.

Though thinking about it, it might look pretty cool to use an old tire tread, with the tread-side back, with the smooth side toward the wheel well...

I'm sure that could happen. The stock ones seem pretty tough so far and do the job keeping some of mud off the sides of my car. Cheap enough to replace if I need to. They don't change the look a lot. ImageUploadedByToasterJeep1481316963.833230.jpg

Yes, I am running KO2s - love them. There was some drilling in the fronts. One hole per side. Everything else uses pre existing holes. There is a clip that you have to install blind. I put my phone underneath the car with the camera on and it worked great. 20 minutes tops to install.

Thanks... I'm contemplating upgrading my stock Falkens on my TH, what size KO2s on yours and any lift or spacers? I want to improve the look without breaking the bank.

BFG Ko2s 225 65 17 - no lift or spacers. I actually got them at no charge from my dealer after seeing a thread on here about all season tires on THs instead of all terrains. My window sticker said All Terrain and my Gooodyears were listed as All Season. I've only had them a few days but they are a big upgrade in traction with no rubbing.

I had planned to buy them before I saw that thread. They are a big improvement IMO. Happy Trails to you too!
