Well having the same 2 issues which both are documented and recognized on the forums . Check engine light came back on last night , and lost 4wd and remote starter ( which happens apparently when CEL comes on) brought it to Jeep last week they installed 4 flashes. Issue was fixed . Now here I am again same issue. Issue # 2 , musty engine /oil smell coming thru vents after a few minutes of driving. Not sure where it's from. Is anyone having these issues? And is there a solid answer on how to fix?

Have the oil smell on my TH through the drivers vent . Only when I come to a stop ok when in motion. I sealed up around the plastic surround by the heater intake. But still the same. Funny though you open the hood and there us no smell at all.

No there isn't .. makes no sense.. I'm wondering if it's an emissions problem , which is also causing the check engine light to come on and me to lose 4wd?

See if the smell goes away if you switch the ac to recirc. Mine does. There a few complaints from others on the web. I think is the hot engine fumes getting past the hood seal or though the gap between the plastic finisher and the body.

Have added some foam to the hood to sit between the seal and the hood. Also found some old trunk seal to seal off the heater intake. Will update you after a run tomorrow.

    Hi Trailhawk16,

Yes, you are unable to use remote start if the check engine light is on. If we can get you back to the dealership for both of your issues that would be great--based on your post, the smell has not be addressed yet, correct? You can send your VIN in a PM if you'd like me to facilitate!

Engine smell improved with the mods in the pictures. But still present. Easy check for anyone drive at highway speed until normal temp. Pull over engine at idle. Stick your nose by the heater intake outside by the wiper arm. Smells like hot engine fumes. Its coming past the hood seals or the body and gets dragged into the heater. Be interesting what the dealer finds. Mine found nothing.

There have been a couple of reports of small oil leak from turbo pipes in the uk giving a oil smell but I thought it was on Diesel engined ones but guess there would be no harm in checking in case it's a shared part.
