Hello folks. Back in October I traded in my FJ for a new trailhawk. I've been driving and fishing the DE beaches for several years and can say that the FJ cruiser was no joke in the soft sand. Never an issue. While I like the compact size of the Renegade, I was a bit concerned as to how the small tires would do in the sugar sand of the Delaware beaches. This past weekend all concerns were lifted! The mighty toaster Jeep blew my mind. Tires aired down to 18psi, traction control off, and 4x4 locked into sand mode. Every bit as good as the FJ, maybe even a little better. On the beach there were a ton of Wranglers and a few cherokees, but I was the only one in a Renegade. Can't wait to get back up there in 2 weeks. Cheers to a great little beach buggy!i

Are you running stock tires or have you upgraded to a more beefier tire for the sand?

Funny you should ask. I was gonna try to get a set of KO2's put on last week but never got around to it. So, yes, just the stock tires. Aired down they worked great. Don't know if I'll bother with the KO2's now

I just went down to Corolla, NC yesterday and it was sketchy at first because we didnt get to air down beforehand so pulling up off the hard packed sand to park in the soft stuff gave the Renny a bit of a fight but I aired down to 15psi once we parked and the ride back was smooth sailing up on the deep, super soft sand farther from the water. Saw about 10-15 trucks stuck on the way out including a lifted Ram, a few lifted Wranglers. Most of the ones stuck were small pickups & SUVs with highway tires. Airing down made a huuuge difference tho. It was the wife's first time ever driving anything on the beach and it never even felt like we were slowing down or losing grip. Most of the ones that were stuck likely didnt air down beforehand either because there was no pull off area where we drove on and there's a bunch of "No Stopping" signs all along the road. Which doesnt make much sense because there are also signs telling you to stop and air down before going on the beach....

I too took my TH to the beach and was impressed. Though I got stuck on top of a small dune it was because I stopped at the top when I saw the drop off on the other side causing me to lose momentum. It was my fault for not scouting the other side of the dune first. Luckily two guys helped give me a push over.

We're about to pull onto the beach now so we'll see how it does today.

***Update*** Bruce handled the beach with no problems. Putting it in manual mode allowed me to put it in whatever gear I wanted, even without turning ESC off. Cruised for 3-4 miles down the beach at less than 2000rpm. Only aired down to 25psi this time compared to 15psi last time. Got some driving videos on the GoPro, just have to edit them down when I get home. I'd post a pic of us parked on the beach but the app never seems to want to let me for some reason.
