Took my stock 2015 4x4 latitude out on the sand (Outer Banks NC) this weekend. I was worried about clearance, but had no problems. I ran at 17lbs, but larger tires would have eased my worries.

I wanted to share, as i was apprehensive about deep sand in a small class jeep with no lift kit or all terraim tires. I imagined someone le mau ne too, and a success story would be cool.

I'm interested in hearing about more Renegades on the beach. My wife and I just moved to Wilmington in June and both Carolina Beach and Kure beach allow vehicle access. We rode along in a family member's F150 a couple weeks ago and can't wait to try it with our Renegade.

We have a Trailhawk with a Daystar lift & AT tires. We've been on the beach with it twice. Once in Corolla and once in Oregon Inlet. We have the annual pass for Cape Hatteras National Park so we'll be back many times. The only time we've ever had trouble was in Corolla where they didn't have the pull off spots like in Oregon Inlet to air down right before you go on the beach so we had to hit it with the full 39psi in the tires. It struggle as would be expected in the soft sand at slow speeds. Once we aired down to about 15-20psi, it ran like a champ. I do recommended putting the transmission in manual mode for the long rides down & back. With it in full auto it kept the trans in a gear that had the engine turning 3000rpm or more. In manual mode I just upshifted once and it ran so much better. I've seen a lowered Nissan Juke on the beach in Corolla so you shouldn't have any problems as long as youre smart about your tire pressures and keep your momentum up.

Tire pressure gauges are a must tho. I've seen far too many people think they've aired down correctly just to come back on the pavement to see they've let damn near all the air out and have to ride back to the air pump on the sidewalls of the tires. This would be especially annoying in Corolla because I'm pretty sure every air pump from there to the bridge is secretly controlled by 1 guy using a hand pump somewhere. The guys with heavy duty trucks must spend a small fortune in change at the pumps trying to get back up to 60+psi.

Anyone have videos of their beach excursion? It would be great to see. Our beaches are closed to driving until after labor day, and not much to drive on compared to OBX. I drove/fished at OBX many years ago with a Toyota pickup. I think it is time to make plans for a trip down next year. :D

I have a time lapse from Nags Head down to the lighthouse where we got on the beach and then some of the beach we drove on. I meant to upload it somewhere to link but I forgot I had it. I'll get on it today or tomorrow.

    Thanks for sharing.

I plan to try Kure Beach first. There is a visitor center at the access point, so there's plenty of opportunity to sort things out when entering and leaving the beach. I plan to try 20psi for the first trip. I always carry a good gauge, but I'm thinking about picking up a portable compressor as well. They're slow, but I'd feel much more comfortable getting the tires back up to 26-28psi before making my way to a station to air back up completely.
