A month ago my Jeep Renegade stalled on the interstate in a construction zone, wouldn't start and burned up the starter. The dealership did an oil change two weeks prior and didn't spot the massive metal shavings. I also had it serviced at 5,000 miles and 7,000 miles for an engine ticking that they claimed "was normal for that drivetrain". Finally a month later they confirmed the engine seized. There are massive metal fragments in the oil pan, and the crankshaft is discolored. See attached. The dealership has ordered a new engine, but I'm wondering if I should lemon law the vehicle. My other option is demanding an extended warranty on the drive train past 100,000 miles and a free maintenance package. What do you guys think? Sent from my TA-1025 using ToasterJeep mobile app
Lemon law it, if you can. In MN, this single incident wouldn't qualify for a lemon law, unless for some reason it takes them more than 30 days to fix it.
I have an engine ticking on acceleration. I've heard this is normal too. On idle its fine and also cruising at speed, but once I slightly push down the throttle the ticking starts, assuming its the valves on the VVT. Was your ticking at idle, acceleration, always? Thanks
It ticked under load when accelerating, or maintaining speed, but when you let off the throttle it would become quite when there was no load. As soon as the engine began to slow the vehicle down it would make the tick again. My mechanic buddy and I thought it was the upper CV joint making the noise, but the dealership said it was "normal". The tick was subtle, but it was enough to bug me if the radio wasn't turned up. I didn't hear any noise upon failure, but I had the radio up loud. My neighbor said that the engine was audibly ticking loud when I drove past him the day before the failure. Sent from my TA-1025 using ToasterJeep mobile app
Well, that sucks. Sorry to hear. Thanks for the information. Taking mine in tomorrow just to check as you described almost the same ticking sound.
I took it in and for two days said they've located the noise, but do not know what is causing it. They say its not the engine, but its coming from the transmission or transfer case. Oil pan checks out. No shavings. They said they will keep it over the weekend, but bring in a regional CDJ engineer to take a look at it because their #1 Jeep tech is a little stumped on the reason for the sound. My mystery sound continues...
Could you give more info like what transmission /engine/year-batch ? I'm really sorry about your situation i really hope they 'll compensate Sent from my SM-G955U using ToasterJeep mobile app
I have a 2016 Sport with a 2.4L. I don't have possession of the vehicle, so I don't know know the batch#. Where would you find that? Sent from my TA-1025 using ToasterJeep mobile app
