I just came up on a year of ownership and have never seen the Change Oil light, although I have changed oil at 5K intervals. Yesterday the Perform Service warning appeared after I started my car. I called the dealership and they said it was just time for an oil change. I was scheduled for an oil change today so I had it done locally (I live 60 miles from my dealership). Once they were done they tried to reset it so the warning would go away using both their manual and my manual with no luck. I have googled it and had no luck. I called the dealership and they gave me instructions that matched the manual except I was supposed to pump the accelerator 4 times instead of three. Does anyone know how to reset this warning?

I pumped it 3 times and it worked fine.

The perform service alert should go away on its own. I think it took mine a week to stop showing the alert.

Mine has been on the whole time I've had my car and the dealers never figured it out. It seems it eventually just stopped telling me.

I have 6000 miles on mine and havent seen the light yet. Stopped by the dealer and they said not to trust it. I kept waiting for it to come on for my 1st oil chsnge. What else is on here we shouldn't trust?

There is another alert for an oil change and that one can be cleared with the pumping the pedal procedure. Before I ever saw the change oil alert I had already done 3 oil changes each at 5,000 miles all with full synthetic.

I believe the heavier weight all synthetic oil is actually speced to go longer in between changes. Now the dealer won’t tell you that, because they want you in every 5-6k or 6 months at the longest, so they can charge you $90 for the oil change, $59 for wipers & $100 for the cabin air filter. Conventional oil breaks down so much faster, & needs to be changed sooner to protect the engine from overheating.

Br!an, I do like the idea of a heavier weight synthetic. what weight synthetic are you running?
I have always been a bit skeptical of 0-20 and that's why I run the approved full synthetic stuff and change it myself at 5k with a mopar filter.

The weight of the oil is set due to the clearances in the motor. Oil is like blood for your vehicle. Running a thicker oil is making things work harder. The OE recommendation on the 2.4L is full synthetic 0W-20 full synthetic due to clearances in a motor, not due to wanting you to service your vehicle more.

Is it true that 0W-20 is being used to increase gas mileage for the stupid CAFE requirements and may not be the best for the engine?
