Allow me to elaborate. The bumper is intended for the 2.4L engine. Mine is the 1.4L turbo. There are two tabs on the top and four tabs on the bottom of the winch plate that attach to the rest of the bumper. Two of the tabs on the bottom had to be removed to keep from hit the intercooler(not included on the 2.4L). The tabs on the top also would have protruded from the factory bumper. I also had problems with where the AC lines connected to their radiator. I had to cut a little piece out for clearance. Avid asked me to acknowledge the fact that this is not the intended use for this product. So I feel I should point that out as well.
Gotcha, thank you for all the extra info. Much appreciated. Maybe a case where it would be better to start from scratch and weld up a bracket myself then. I just highly prefer to mount it behind the factory cover. Thanks again!
So I got the CB radio installed. I actually used the ATP a-pillar light bracket on the driver side. I trimmed up the plastic to clear the coax cable and wired the radio into the car. I chose the Uniden CMX760. It hides away nicely when not in use. Now the only trouble is fitting through the garage door.
I re-addressed some of my wiring today. More importantly, I got my bull bar to fit on with the winch. Also put a smaller antenna on so it will fit through the garage door. Not sure what to do next.
I'm currently working on adding extra switches. This switch and two indicator lights are for my water methanol injection. The green lights up when it is injecting and the yellow lights when the tank is low.
My first alteration- Didn’t like the chrome headlight look; added tint to the headlight and front blinkers. Next up, Pyle stereo install and roof rack
So I wanted more switches but didn't want to keep cutting holes everywhere. I found a button module on ebay and swapped it out. The old one just pops out and the plugs are the same. In case anyone was wonder, No, I did not suddenly have heated seats or a heated steering wheel. Then I wanted to get power from behind my cigarette lighter. Things got pretty serious I did not use the existing buttons. Instead, I put a more normal switch in place of a blank button.
Got new tires. Went with the General Grabber ATx this time. The cost savings was too significant to ignore. We'll see how they hold up.
Still using 225/75 r16. That's the same size as the KO2's that came off. I havn't noticed any rubbing.
Got the ATP roof rack in the mail. I dry fit everything together first. Was thinking about mounting some side lights I probably won't do a full right up because it came with instructions that are pretty detailed. Hopefully I'll get something posted by tomorrow.
Why am I always installing new parts in the middle of winter? Anyway, the instructions that came with the roof rack simply said to remove the molding from the roof to install the side rails. I decided to modify my moldings so they could go back in place after the rack was installed. Here you can see the side rail without the molding. Notice that the bolts are taller then the roof. There are convenient raised sections on the under side of the molding at each mounting location. I cut a notch on the other side (to line up with the legs of the side rails) and used a hole saw to make a cut out for the bolt heads. I cleaned up the holes a bit to make it look nicer. Other than that, the install was pretty straight forward. Side rails first, front and rear plates next, followed by all the cross bars. Nothing to it.
Here it is compared to the ATP pictures. It's worth it to get the factory trim to go back on. I'm guessing that if you have the factory roof rails, if might be harder to save that piece. You can also see the difference in the cross bars. Mine are flipped from the ATP pictures to make a shallow basket. http://americantrailproducts.com/Renegade-Roof-Rack-System-_p_86.html I am currently working on mounting some side lights on the roof rack for camping.
I like flipping it to make the shallow basket. Did you get rid of the center bar? How you routing the power for the lights? Is there a lot of wind noise?
