I went price shopping for tires sized 225/65/17 today and came away thinking if I did buy them it would be the end of my Renegade and possiblly the world as we know it. The salesman basically said that a size 225/65/17 on a Renegade would spell doom and gloom. I got the impression that if I bought them I would probably destroy everything and would feel real bad. They would ruin my transmission, destroy the brakes, steering and just about everything else except possibly the radio. So all of you that have this size tire be prepared. :). I told him that there are many, many thousands of Rengades with these tires and he said you are all doomed. Needless to say I will be going elsewhere for tires. He said here, check out these Michelins, I did, all Honda Accords, Camrys, Chevys, no cuvs, suvs. Found out later he was the manager.

Thanks for the advance warning. I will go into survival mode and stock up my pantry. But at least I will be able to still listen to music on my radio. Luckily I only have 255/55/18 and didn’t destroy the world

Just went to BJ's Tire and they will sell me the tires but won't install them. This is getting ridiculous. Their policy is they will only install original size tires for your vehicle.

Sounds like you need to buy the tires you want online and then find an independent shop that knows something. Everyone is gun shy these days.

I went to a local shop today and got some good prices on the Yokohama G015 and the Falken Wildpeak AT3W. The were getting me a price for Pirelli AT+ but their computer system went down before they finished. Been happening all day and they were waiting for their internet provider to replace the main wire to the building. Once I get that price I have to decide which tire I am going to get. Have heard good reports on all of them.

Might not be an easy option for you, But I always just take my Rims to the store, No Jeep, and tell them to put the size tire I want on them.... Never had any questions asked doing it that way...

Good idea but not an easy option. I found a place with good prices, now I just need to decide what tire I will get. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I just got a set of Courser AXT 235/65 r17s put on mind without any issue. When I told the shop that the tires were oversized, all they ask was if I was cool if there was a little rubbing. I said I was and that was that. Fortunately they didn't rub. I'm actually taking her on the Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail next week. I'll try to remember to report back how it goes.

I've bee really happy with my BFG KO2 in 225/65 R17. No rubbing, pretty quiet, and already got me out of a marshy mishap with my teardrop trailer.

Do you have wheel spacers? Running Toyo ATIIs in 225/65r17s on stock wheels with no spacers, there's only about 1/3" between the tire and strut spring perch. I can barely squeeze the tip of my finger between the tire and strut spring perch.

No spacers, it's close to be sure, but I haven't had any problems yet. Put 3000 miles on them in the last week. 400 of which was spent on the Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail. Tires did great overall. The MPG hit was pretty harsh though. Averaged 24.5 for the whole trip, was lucky to do 27 on the highway, but anything over 65 mph just tanked fuel efficiency. They did great on the trail though, not a single traction or grip issue the whole way. If you're looking for a cheap effective all terrain that fits the stock 17s and don't mind the MPG hit, not sure you will do much better than the Courser AXTs. That said I will probably look into getting something else once these are worn out. Maybe something that will hopefully do better MPG. Might look into some Grabber APTs instead. But would need to find a set of 16in rims to get a size that would fit.
