Okay, I need you to come install mine. Mine installation was a debacle. So I didn't get to finish. I am having a rough time drilling through the seams. I think it took me almost a hour working on one hole, and still no hole. Can you tell me what you are doing to drill those holes? Any special bits or drill? Also, I don't know if you know this, but I accidentally drilled the 9/16 holes too big on a few (3) on one side. So the inserts are somewhat loose. Do you think the bolts on the seams will be good to hold this up and a few that fit snug? The drill got away from me. Thanks in advance.

I don’t think that you would want to make the trek to California for a little help. lol

I found myself having to sharpen the drill bits almost after every hole. The pinch welds are a hardened steel for structural integrity.

The easiest way would be to go to someplace like harbor freight and but a package of ¼ inch drill bits (small pack of 10). If you can get two holes out of a bit, you will be doing pretty good. Put a drop of oil on the bit before you start drilling to aid in cutting through the metal. The drill speed should be slow. If you run at full speed with the drill you will burn up the drill bit before it can cut.

If you didn’t go too big with the 9/16 holes, the inserts should expand enough to hold.

    I wish you the best. DON'T give up !!! you'll get-er done.

I think that's my problem, I was going full speed. I did get my bits at Harbor Freight, but I used 4 bits on one so far and the no-hole won. I don't have anything to sharpen the bit so I guess I'll use more bits. I did use oil. So it sounds like slow is the key.

As for the 9/16, I think they became 5/8th. So I'm gonna try to see if it will hold up well once I get my 1/4" holes done. If not, I guess I'll have to search for 5/8th inserts, if they make em.

Thank you so much for such a quick response. I will have to try again next week when my frustration goes away.

    Your ride is sweet!

So I am going to attempt to tackle this again tomorrow. I have one question, when you said the drill speed should be slow, how slow is slow?

I guess that’s really slow. I’m hoping I can get a hole in 10-15 minutes

Does the Billstein b6 add any extra lift like the b8s do?

I know I've been hounding you with questions, but it seems if there is a hurdle I find it.

So I'm trying to get my swing arm installed and the black washers actually protrude beyond the lip fit the swing arm slot with the roller bearings, therefore won't fit when I go to slide arm in. Figure I'm doing something wrong or need to make clearance for it. Unfortunately, the mallet didn't get me anywhere. I'm thinking I can grind down the washers or somewhere on the bumper to make it fit.

Keep the bumper loosely mounted to the bumper mount while you are trying to get the swing arm installed.
The hole for the swing arm isn't lining up for you.

I just posted asking for pictures of the Avid Pre-runner from the front and here it is. Great build, well done.

Quick question for you: when you bent the pinch seam, did you just take to it with a hammer or did you use heat or some other method? Kind of tough to see with all the shiny, but it appears you just cut the fat toe and then started folding almost immediately?

I used a crescent wrench to start the fold and then completed the fold with a 3 pound hammer.

It is hard to admit, but I think that I am about finished. Minus the roof rack, I have just about completed my build.
I have a few more little modifications, like: re-positioning some switches, where to plug in the winch controller, general upkeep and scheduled maintenance, I think I'm done.
    ... I have a happy Jeep.

Sure you are! I bet you will still come up with a few more things to do to it. :D We always do. I am planning mine out since it has to be a daily driver for my long trek right now.
