I'm installing my avid 1.5 inch lift tomorrow. Will I need to do any cutting to my strut and will I need to have it aligned when I install it. I'm new to all of this so any help will be appreciated
No, no cutting at all. Relatively easy install. If you run into any problems, just ask. Somebody here will have an answer for you. Yes, you will need an alignment after your lift. Once you break the lower strut mount bolts loose, an alignment is required/highly recommended.
Will I be able to use my 2 inch wheel spacers after lift install or is 2 inches too much for the 1.5 inch lift?
Depends on your wheel/tire size. Rears should be no problem. 2" spacers on the front widen the arc as the wheels turn lock-to-lock. Could be fine with stock (28" OD) tires. Lot of information available on pinch seam weld and inner fender liner mods if you run into problems.
So you're at 29" OD, no lift and 1.5" spacers. If you're OK now, should be OK with the 1.5" lift and 2" spacers. I'm running 245/70R16's (29.5" OD), 2" lift and 1" spacers. Got some minor rubbing on the plastic liners. Heat gun should take care of it. Sounds like you've got options with the spacers.
I had some rub at full turn until I got rid of the access port cover ( rubbing due to plastic cover rivets pertruding out 1/4 inch) no rub now but I'm just wondering if I go to 2 inches of spacer will I need to trim anymore. I will be going to a 245 or 255 on my next set of mayhems but as of now I wanna work with what I have
Avid shows a 29.5" OD with inner fender mods for the 1.5" lift kit. 245/65R17 = 29.5" OD, 255's 30.1" OD. My rubbing is at the back of the front liners and the front rib in the back liners. If you are hitting the fog lamp access panel in the front of the front liners with the 235's and 1.5" spacers, I'd be concerned about going to 2" spacers (wider arc). Mayhems may add to the complexity... 5x110 to 5x127 converter spacers, different offset/backspace, 6.5 to 8" rims. Good luck!
Without taking it to get it aligned, is there any way I could just align it myself or get it pretty close to spec?
Mine was pretty close after I installed my Avid 2" kit. They do a good job with the offsets on their spacers to keep you close to OE spec. In the back, the front lower arms need to be adjusted to correct for significant toe in. I'd highly recommend a computer alignment. They run about $130 around here. Good investment to avoid premature/uneven wear on your tires, especially if your gonna add new ko2's. Post pics on your progress!
I sure will. Install will happen tomorrow and alignment will follow...i may throw on my half doors if weather holds up as well
