Originally, Cindy and I decided to just install 4 new 225/75R16 Cooper Discoverer STT Pro's on our Jeep Renegade and keep the factory spare. Our thinking was that we probably wouldn't be able to fit a full size spare under the trunk and really, the difference in size wasn't too far off to be a problem. That being said, I had the front wheels off our Renegade yesterday as I was doing some work and just before wrapping things up, I thought that maybe I should just give it a try. So, I opened up the rear end, removed the factory spare, foam insert and tool bag and popped in one of our new wheels. And, what do you know - IT FITS!! After fiddling with things a bit, I was even able to get the tool bag back in but not the foam insert which really isn't a big deal. Of course, the trunk deck went right back in as well and without any issues. Anyway, I just thought some of you might be interested to know that you can carry a full size 225/75R16 spare in the back of your Renegade. Guess I'll be ordering up another wheel and tire now
Yeah, it was bugging us that we might not be able to run a full size spare. This will make it that much easier for us to get out and do some exploring with a peace of mind
Good to know! Is there a bracket or mounting bolt to keep the tire in place? Mine just came with the "emergency kit" and I'm interested in replacing the insert with an actual spare (or full size wheel/tire, as you show here).
Yes. My spare tire was held in place by a long bolt that goes through the center of the wheel. I was able to reuse it with the new wheel and tire.
I was afraid I was going to have to mount a full sized spare on the roof rack. It's good to know it will fit in back.
This was our fear as well and we were really happy to see this works. I'll have to post up some another pic that shows how the tool bag and other recovery gear we have being stored back there too.
the question i have is where can i get a cheap 5x110 17x7 rim? does anyone know of any other cars that have this configuration so i can search salvage yards or get quotes?
