So I pulled the box off of the windshield to see what's inside. I have apparently only one accessory installed. No camera or anything bulky. Any idea what this accessory is? If it's not actually outside-facing I'd relocate it to the ceiling thing right there where the dome light sits. Oh, by the way, take off the two remaining pieces of plastic to reinstall. Put the big plastic cover on first, then the intermediate one that sits over the mirror-stand, then the part up against the headliner.
Dumb question, any long-term risks if I unhook it to see what, if anything, stops working? It would be swell to be able to take that box off, take that plastic off of the glass, and then scrape the black stuff off and actually have more windshield view back. Or heaven forbid, replace the one-pivot mirror with a two-pivot mirror so it can be raised up higher, closer to the ceiling to get it where it doesn't obstruct forward view so badly.
Just picked up my 2016 4 x 4 sport last Friday, no box behind the mirror. Also noticed door handles match paint (not sure if this is due to key less entry system I had added on when I ordered.
I like that look a lot better, even if the mirror still hangs down too far... I did some more looking. The Mopar.com diagram is wrong. The part numbered numbered 2 and 1 are backwards. I'm reasonably sure that the part I've posted a picture of is the rain sensor. If I can find a better way to package the rain sensor then I can remove a lot of forward obstruction. A black Radio Shack project case might be enough actually.
