Hello All, I've searched the forums and found some interesting ideas re: where to mount a cb antenna. I have the midland 75-822. I have a magnet mounted antenna, but want to put something more permanent. Anyone have success mounting a cb antenna to the hood or rear view mirrors? Thanks!
Haven't seen one like that. The mirror covers pop-off, so they probably wouldn't make for a good mounting point. Consider if you put a piece of angle-iron in the hole in the rear bumper for the recovery eye, if you could mount one of those big antennas there.
I've seen someone on the Renegade forums do a hood Mount but can't exactly remember the post name. Of I find it, I'll let you know. I have also seen a antenna Mount done on the rear of the vehicle at the brake light. That was on the Jeep Renegade forum. Herr's a pic. Sent from my Nexus 5 using ToasterJeep mobile app
You're likely to get the best performance from your antenna if it's mounted in the center of the roof. I know that's not the most convenient position, but that's where the metal of the roof will serve as a good ground plane for transmission/reception.
I like that taillight mounted one. I also like the globex rear license plate mount. I wouldn't know about hood mount... Wouldn't it get annoying when opening hood? I think if I do a cb, I'm doing that tail mount
I like the tail light and the hood suggestion. I plan on purchasing a Francis hot rod antenna, 4.5. Right now I have an old, trusty radio shack, magnetic mount.
I was debating on looking into a front drivers side pillar mount.your right about the mirrors. Side pillar will Likely be a DIY project, if I go in that direction.
Save yourself the trouble and time and buy a thru glass CB mount for like 10 bucks and the range is the same as most of the rest. Your only using it on the trails anyways and no holes to worry abt.
