Update: Body control module blew not CPU but I can’t change the title.

Hey everyone! Hoping for ya’lls insight. I took my 15’ renegade in last week because the fog light housing had filled with water and that fog light wouldn’t shut off unless the car was off. I took it and they told me it was cause by my aftermarket led bulbs and it blew the body control module. They tried to tell me this wouldn’t be covered by warranty because I put the lights in. These leds have been in for almost 3 years now and I have had no issue until the water in the housing started.

Well I fought with them and they now replacing the computer system under warranty but are making me swap out all my lights and told me if it happens again they won’t fix.

So my question is, has anyone heard of this before? I’ve seen soooo many renegades and jeeps that that fact with aftermarket leds. Do you think it would be stupid for me to put them back in once I get my car back?

    Thanks for your replies!

That sounds like BS. I’d go to a different dealer.

I just got the report I guess it was the Body Control Module that blew. Still think it’s a bunch of BS. But now I’m super concerned to put my leds back in it. I should mention everything I purchased and put in my car was direct copy cat from the write done on here by wayoflife

There are laws in place to prevent sketchy dealers from voiding warranty claims due to unrelated mods. I’d read up on them and let the dealer know you’re no chump.

Oh I did. I called them originally and spoke with the supervisor and told them I consulted a lawyer and he told me to mention the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act to them. Which is did. The supervisor said he’d investigate. They did fix it this one time under warranty but they made me put all original bulbs back in first and said if it happened again they wouldn’t do a warranty repair. I picked up the car last night and the advisor had the nerve to tell me they stuck there neck out on the line for me and doctored the report and I better leave them a good survey.
