So I just got the Daystar sliders for my 2016 Latitude 1.4L 4x4 and the passenger side went on just fine. However after removing the factory trim piece on the driver's side, I noticed a plate bolted to the rear of the front wheel well behind the liner (see the attached photo).

Does anyone know what this plate is for?

I removed it because the slider would not go on without cutting either the slider or the plate. Is this plate something critical that I should trim and put back on? I just think that it is weird that there was not a matching one on the passenger side.

I remember seeing a discussion about this piece before. I can't find the thread but I believe it is a safety upgrade resulting from crash testing. You might want to check with your dealer to find out exactly what it is (if they know). I will keep checking for the thread. It might be on another forum.

I was wondering if it was for crash safety, guess I should find a way to get it back on there.
