Do any of you guys use the manual shifting feature on the auto tranny? If so whats your best method to obtain smooth shifts? I've never used one of these but drove a stick shift sports car for the last 12 years and this shifts nothing like that. I thought the best way would be to let off the throttle a bit to shift, but it seems to prefer me to shift without lifting at all to obtain the smoothest shifts. Will this hurt/wear the transmission? Or are all the sensors and computers protecting me from poor shifts? Can anyone describe how they shift and or give me some pointers to help smooth things out? Thanks!

I use it quite often. It does seem to shift better without lifting as you mentioned and that is how I use it. I don't think it will hurt the transmission, if it did it wouldn't be available, my Renegade has 50K on it. On the highway I will use it when I want to pass another car or climbing a hill. I use it most when just out for a ride on backroads, lots of fun and the gas mileage seems a little better when using it. It works great. It definitely is different from a regular manual transmission but I do enjoy it. This is my 4th vehicle with the auto stick feature and I feel it is the best so far. Had a Malibu with paddles which I hated. One word of CAUTION on downshifting - the transmission will downshift thru multiple gears very quickly if you don't release the gear shift as you go down each gear. I did this by accident one day and went from 7th to 3rd in the blink of an eye. Luckily there was no one behind me. I do lift on downshifting with the exception of 5th to 4th. That downshift seems to speed up the Renegade for a second when going into 4th. I have found that just tapping the gas a little alleviates some of the speed up sensation. Hope this helps a little.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that uses this on their Renegade. I do a lot of highway driving for work and I mostly just keep it in auto but when I'm driving around town and side streets I always have it in the manual auto.
