I purchased a new Trailhawk with 11 miles on it. I read the manual on how to break in the engine and noticed a reccomendation to get the oil changed at around 500 miles, and then again at around 1500 miles. I called my service dept. and they scoffed at the idea of getting the oil changed. Look for more compliant dealer or just wait until my oil change light comes on. Note: This is my first brand new vehicle, and I don't want to set myself up for issues down the road. I've been careful to change up my rpms during my commute and used more rural roads with different speed zones on purpose to prevent the rpm's from staying static for more than 15 mins as the manual suggests. I now have around 600 miles and will probably have close to 800 if I get it changed on my next day off.
I downloaded the 2021 Manual from Jeep, (https://msmownerassets.z13.web.core...enegade/P119487_21_BV_OM_EN_USC_t_DIGITAL.pdf) and looked for the break in, and it didn't suggest changing the oil, (page 96) I was actually surprised it did have an actual set of break in instructions, as most motors are "Benched" for a breakin before they are even installed these days. In any case, if your manual that came with the jeep actually says to change the oil, I'd show that to the dealership.
I have a 19 TH with the same 1.3 turbo. For break-in, I just made sure I varied the RPMs and not just let it cruise. My manual didn't say anything about an early oil change, but I changed it at 1250 and then again at 8600 miles. Oil change reminder didn't come on till 10k! My next oil change at 13600 I will send a sample in Blackstone. No issues so far tho!
As you see, there are differing opinions. However, knowing what I know of turbo engines, I would err on the side of caution and follow the break-in instructions provided in your manual. Either show the dealership the manual, find a different dealership, or go find a local shop that's worked on Renys before. Dealership techs vary in their experience and attention to detail on the various cars that go through their shop, same as anywhere else. They just cost more. Edit: this advice is assuming you have the 1.3L turbo in your TH. If you have the 2.4L tigershark, I don't think the oil change is as necessary. However, it wouldn't hurt.
