Any updates on how you feel about the tires Eddie? I have got my lift kit and am now trying to figure out if I want to get the smaller wheels, the 1.25 wheel spacers and getting these tires. Basically just copying you as you have made this look great. And I am currently very envious.
Honestly, Cindy and I LOVE these new tires! They are without question a lot louder than the street tires that come on the Renegade from the factory but then, they're extremely aggressive mud terrain tires. On the rocks, they perform awesome and are tough and on the snow and ice, they grip amazingly well for an MT. I would highly recommend them if you're okay with them being louder and really, mostly at about 30 MPH. Also, as is the case with any MT, they will have more "rolling resistance" and added to its bigger size, you will see a reduction in MPG.
Are there a set of the STT Pro's that'll fit the 17" wheels that already come on the trailhawk? I plan to get the daystar lift with wheel spacers and I'm wondering if I can run these type of tires without needing to downsize the wheels.
They do come in 17's, but nothing that will fit without being a sawzall wizard. Wayalife's 225/75/16 is 29.49 inches in diameter and the smallest 17 in the STT Pro is 255/75/17 which is 31.89 inches in diameter and an extra inch wider.
Awesome thanks for the input! Man I just really like the tread design on the Coopers. Ive also been going back and forth between these and the BFG KO2's. Any input on those? Whats the best size to run there with a lift etc? Sorry if I'm bringing up an old topic but appreciate y'alls help. I'm looking to be playing around in Moab any chance I get since I'm right here in Utah and want an aggressive good looking tire that can take on the trails out there.
The BFG's are great tires, they're just "all terrains" as opposed to "mud terrain". All Terrains will give you better MPG and will handling better on snow and icy roads and if you're just going out to play in places like Moab, they'll do well out there too. With a lift on a Trailhawk (which is about an inch taller already), I would not run a tire that has a "TRUE" measurement of about 29.5". That's what I'm running now and had rubbing issues prior to doing some trimming. Even after the trim, the clearance is very tight.
Ok awesome! I really appreciate your expertise. I've been looking at what others have done with the BFG KO2's on this forum and the sizing on the BFG website...Im wondering if a 245/65/17 KO2 will work on my current wheels with a lift and spacers. Im not sure if I'm reading everything correctly and don't want to run into issues when it comes to installation. I can do the pinch seam mod if needed. Do you suppose that'll work? Im new to the modification game so this forum is really helpful!
Being that I have not personally run a set of the BFG's in question, it'd be hard for me to say for sure what will or won't work. What I can tell you is that no two tires of the same listed size and made by different manufacturers will measure the same. I can also tell you that what most companies list on their websites as to what the true measurements are aren't always correct either. Sorry, I wish I could be of more help on this.
A 245 is a large tire. Mostly, people are maxing out at a 235, where a 225 fits without a spacer. If you plan to run a spacer, and trim the pinch weld, youll possibly fit. But w/o trying, you wont know for sure.. Until you find someone else that has done it!
Just to clarify, 245 is the width of the tire tread. What will make it a big tire is the sidewall height. The 65, 70 or even 75 after the 245 is the percent of the tread width to make the sidewall height. The higher the percent, the taller the tire. Of course, the size of the wheel will make a difference as well and this is still to say nothing about what make of tire you're talking about. That all being said, I agree, it's hard to say for sure unless you try. I thought I could clear our tires without any rubbing but found that not to be true.
Anybody have an estimation of how many MPG drop you are getting with the Coopers or BF Goodrichs? Looking at getting the KO2s in 17" for my TH.
There are 2 factors in why you would loose MPG with new tires and the first of which is size - the bigger you go, the more you will lose. The second is rolling resistance, the more aggressive the tread, the more you will lose. In other words, an all terrain tread will lose less MPG than a mud terrain. We're seeing about a 4-5 MPG loss with our Coopers but then, they are also mud terrains. I would imagine you'd see a bit less with BFGs.
Have you calculated that the 225/75/16 have a 4.58 Diameter variance? You are going farther than the odometer says and that's being used by the cars computer. 4-5 mpg seems like a lot.
I've seen someone put 245's KO2's on but they didn't mention in detail how the rubbing was. Just be careful. If you have a local Discount tire near you that has a pair in stock they may be willing to test fit them.
Thanks for the reply, though 4-5mpg does seem like a lot. I don't know that I need a whole set of wheels and tires(going to a 16" wheel), so I may just throw on some KO2s and be done with it on these wheels. The TH will see mostly daily driving, with some play on the weekends. So 225/65/17 KO2s will fit on stock suspension without rubbing? I plan on getting the Daystar lift as well just not for a couple months after depleting my funds on tires.
