Coming up on 1,ooo miles this weekend and I've really enjoyed every one!
I don't know if it's because I'm coming out of a 2001 Hyundai Elantra (my every day for 16 yrs)
or is it really the sweet ride my pleasure sensors are telling me it is ?? Anyway can anyone tell me what oils and filters meet Jeeps warranty requirements? Also any opinions on your first Oil change at 1,ooo miles?
Did I say how much I like this Jeep???

If you go on the Jeep app you can pull up coupons for your local dealer, they make it easy and inexpensive to establish a relationship with your dealership... and get the right service.

I have free oil changes with my dealer, I just wanted to do the first one myself.

By all accounts there is no reason to do a 1000-mi oil change on these new engines. I'd say just monitor the health of your oil and let it ride the 5000 or so miles to the first oil change recommended in the owner manual.

Depends on which engine you have:
I have the 1.4 turbo and needs full synthetic 5w-40 and uses Wix 57341, fram CH9713, or Microguard MGL57341 for the oil filter.

the 2.4l needs 0w-20, don't know if it needs to be full synthetic or a blend, but going full synthetic wouldn't hurt. The oil filters are Wix 57060, Fram PH10060, and Microguard MGL57060.

There may be more choices of filters coming as more people purchase the Renegade. Earlier this year, I could only get the oil filter for the 1.4t online, not all the auto parts stores around me carry it.

I personally change the oil and filter every 6k miles. I start to get itchy if i go any longer and i don't trust the renegades computer to tell me when to change things. I also do it myself so it is quite a bit cheaper than going to a mechanic to do it (unless you have freebies from the dealer!).

How do you go about resetting the oil life indicator?

Put the key in, turn to "on" but dont start the Jeep, wait for all the guages to finish moving, press the gas pedal 3 times, not too fast not too slow, but within 10 seconds, turn off the Jeep and remove the key.

I have personally never seen the oil change reminder, or any other service notice honestly.

Gotcha! Obviously if that routine hadn't worked you would eventually see the indicator. My other car is a Honda Civic which has an oil life value that shows as a percentage, based off RPM as I imagine the renegade is too, I usually wait till it hits 30-20% before I change it. I figure it's an arbitrary number anyway but the oil still looks pretty clean when I change it and I get approx 5k miles before I get down to that usually.

I did my first at 1500 miles. I only use Penzoil Platinum 0w20. Typically the parts stores Advance, Auto Zone, O'Reilly's have specials. I only use the Purolator Boss oil filter too. At least you don't have to drop a skid plate. The Renegade is an awesome little vehicle. I stepped down from a 4x4 Ram with a Hemi. I enjoy my Trailhawk every day!
