Picked up an Anvil Deserthawk today (I liked he mojave one too but just partial to anvil). I was curious if anyone knew of any trails around the LA area they liked maybe for starters?

As the Deserthawk comes with rock rails, was Also curious if anyone had other suggestions for adding?

Also roof tents? Other addons? IMG_5004.JPG

Sweet! There's quite a few folks on this forum from So Cal, but you can also get info on trails from online guides.

Welcome! Nice renegade! Where I grew up west of Riverside (Glen Avon/Pedley) the hills were full of dirt tracks. Maybe not mostly beginner stuff but I bet you could find some fun out that way.

Congratulations on your new Reny. I recently bought mine too, and I love it! This is Jennifer's fiance and we often go off-roading. If this is your first off-road vehicle I recommend you go with someone with experience. There are lots of places near LA to go on a Jeep adventure. Because there are different difficulty levels within the route, I recommend Rowher Flats in Santa Clarita off of Sand Canyon off the 14 freeway. If you plan on going on a weekend let me know.

Yeah would love to! I probably would only have time on the weekends right now.

It's already Friday! If you are still interested in going off-roading tomorrow let me know, I'm up for it. Ocelotl, another Renny owner, told me that Hungry Valley is a good place to go. You in? This goes for any one interested. I rather go earlier in the day.

I'm interested, but I'm still completely 'stock'. I saw hungry valley rated as "med". Is that a good place to start? I may want to push to next weekend to get a handle on the vehicle more but then there is no time like the present to get started right?

You will be surprised in what your Trailhawk can do stock. You want to do Rowher Flats interested? I'm flexible. The tail has 100% easy with medium options within the trail.

    What time were you thinking?

Honestly, its a little last minute for me for Saturday (but possibly), Sunday I have plans so don't think I will be able to make it then. Maybe should plan for next week and see if we can get some other people too?

Absolutely! These little buggers are severely underrated, some much of the off-road community focuses on rock crawling and huge obstacles but their size and the efficiency of the 4x4 system makes Renegades extremely capable on the trail. There's very little wasted energy, I've crawled through washes full of gravel leaving Blazers and Toyotas behind spinning and lurching and the same with winding off camber hills. I've seen a lot of complaints about the stock tires (believe me, I'll be going to a different tire when the Goodyear's are done) but again drive efficiency seems to really make up for their lack of aggressive A/T tred. Here around Vegas there's lots of rock and shale, I routinely drive forty to sixty mile trails and have no cuts or scars on my tires... they don't spin and rarely slip. Take it easy, learn how it works and have a blast!

I'm planning on going to Rowher Flats or Hungry Valley tomorrow morning around 10am, I haven't decided yet. If someone wants to join me just let me know, or if you want to go a different day then post a location and a date and it's on!
