I have a 2016 Trailhawk. I have around 4000 miles on it at this point and see i'm almost down to the add mark. Does anyone know what oil is used from the factory and after that what is generally used. Is is semi syn....full syn or just regular oil? I might just have it changed since its almost down to the add mark instead of adding. I guess i'm from the old school of changing it sooner than needed!

0w 20. Full syn at least blend synthetic. MS 6395 rated. I do mine about every 6k with a premium filter. My oil consumption slowed down around 18k and I don't have to top off as much as I did when it was younger.

I'd top off and monitor it regularly. I had to top mine off twice between 5-6k changes

    Full synthetic.

My dealership told me if I didn't user full synthetic it would ruin the motor. Don't know if that's true, but I wont be putting anything less than full synth in mine.

Dealerships appear to be using Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic 0W20. I ordered "Mopar Oil 0W20" from a Jeep dealer through Amazon and they shipped the Pennzoil oil to me. I went to another dealer to have keys made, they had that same Pennzoil oil for sale at their parts counter. It is what I used when I did my first oil change at 1200 miles. From what I hear it is very good stuff. I don't think any non-synthetic oil has MS-6395 certification. You can get this oil pretty cheap shipped to you online from Walmart.com in a 5 quart jug. One 5 quart jug plus 1 additional quart bottle filled my Trailhawk right to the full line on the dipstick.

Just platinum was what the dealership sent me and what was at the other dealership, although I figure once I use up what I have I'll spring for the ultra platinum.

I thank you very much again!! I used to always do my own changes but now a days I'm lazy I guess and trust the dealer and also seems to be a pain to have to crawl under there and drop that skid plate!

Ms-6395 is available in (Pennzoil) conventional, but that's beside the point of having to run 0w20, which is ONLY available as a synthetic or semi synthetic. Either 1 can be run, just check what brands you run. Mobil 1 I believe isn't 6395 rated for example
