Has anyone recently received a postcard from FCA about an "Important Safety Recall" / "FCA has decided that a defect, which relates to your motor vehicle safety, exists in specific vehicles of your make and model" and has NHSTA and US Department of Transportation logos on the other side.

The dealership they list isn't the one I bought the Renegade from and where all its maintenance has been performed. I've called this other dealership twice and they haven't returned my calls. Will try again tomorrow...

The Jeep owner app lists nothing outstanding in the recall area, so perhaps it doesn't apply to me? (2015 Latitude)

If this came as a simple postcard it is not a recall notification. By law, a recall notification must come by first class mail with a standardized red label on the envelope. It must come from the manufacturer, not from a dealer. It must detail the problem, potential consequences, the factory solution and other information. However, it is not permitted to make any kind of solicitation.

What you have received is very likely an unethical type of advertising from the dealer named on the postcard. As to safety- or recall-related issues, you should ignore it.

Since this is an unethical, deceptive, and probably illegal, means of soliciting business, you may also want to report the facts to several agencies. I'd suggest the Better Business Bureau, your state's Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In my opinion, dealers who attempt to mislead or play on customer fears should face serious consequences. The article below indicates how the FTC has handled cases like this in the past.

    Hi dj002,

Dealerships do have the ability to send out generic recall messaging to customers however I'd like to confirm this is an official communication. Can you PM our page with a photo of the post card you received?

    Thanks Andrea, will do!
Jimmy: Thanks, confirmed I have nothing outstanding.
    Mr. Leroy: interesting article.

Wish there was some way to opt out of all the solicitations from lawyers "Is your car a lemon? We'll get you money!" And "Your warranty is about to expire! Buy ours!" ... really?
