    Hi pjeep1,

I'm very sorry to hear this has affected your Renegade. It is correct that the fans are unfortunately on backorder--we are working to improve this as quickly as possible so that all those affected receive the necessary parts as quickly as possible. We're happy you chose a Jeep as your first American car, and apologize for this bump in the road!

While it is an American branded vehicle due to globalization its assembled in Italy. Seems like whoever is making this part wasn't ready for it to go out so soon and no spares were available from what I was told. Anyhow, late 16 and 17s have the upgraded fan that includes a heat shield that's supposed to help prevent this from occuring again. I gave up on Jeep and Jeep Cares and the dealer. None were helpful and they all wanted me to pay upfront for repairs and a rental for 4 months. I lucked out and found a friend who was trading his in due to transmission and electrical issues and we did the swap in an hour on the updated part. Dealer charging 6 hours of labor because I was just outside of my warranty.

I've reported my issue to the NHTSA and advise everyone I know that has the same problem to do the same. At the very least it would show a track record of this part going out quickly. I run the Jeep Renegade Life group on Facebook and Instagram and there's A LOT of people with the same issue

Will there be a recall on this? Seems like every day I see another 2-3 people with the same exact issue. One would think that this would spark some sort of response from the manufacturer itself. Most of us have been getting directed to the NHTSA to report the issue. At a dealer not far from me there are 9 waiting on the same part. The sad part is that we all love these things but this is just beyond ridiculous.

We unfortunately don't have any information beyond the fact that the part is on backorder, and being produced and shipped as quickly as possible.

This is very concerning. From the research I have done...

...this issue appears to imminent/unavoidable. The question is when will the fan fail on your vehicle.

...Given how New the Renegade is, one can only assume that the more miles your vehicle has, the more time you are borrowing.

...Although not verified, It seems as though the issue only affects 2.4L engines. Anyone here have this issue who does not have 2.4L engine?

...I have not found much about whether the Fiat 500X has similar issues. It is supposedly a very close mechanical relative of the Renegade yet there are no where near the same numbers of forum posts etc (but there are also no where near as many fiat owners).

From a consumer vs. manufacturer perspective, what is considered a reasonable life expectancy of an engine coolant fan? ‘Cause you know if they are savvy the failure of the fan will somehow be declared FWT (fair wear and tear) and not be covered by warranty - a strategy they may be working towards given the labor estimates others have reported to install a replacement.

Well if anything, these posts serve as a time stamp that this is a very common issue with the engines that are well under the warranty limit.

An update, I called the state attorney last Wednesday and surprise I got my Jeep fixed on Thursday....This is what they responded to the state attorney with.....This is all a run around and JEEP does not take ownership to their consumers.....

    Mr.Slaughter,

I reviewed the complaint from Mrs.Mandy L. Houghton with regards to failure to provide service in a timely manner. While I have great sympathy for the length of time it took to repair Mrs. Houghton's vehicle, the fact is that Safford did everything they could to repair the vehicle as fast as possible.

The cooling fan on the Jeep Renegade and vehicle's with similar motors (Dodge Promasters) have a known issue with the bearing. There is a great demand for these parts and unfortunately Chrysler cannot supply them in a timely manner. The parts are still on back order! Our parts department listed the vehicle as VOR (vehicle off rood - not driveable) which lists the vehicle as a high priority when the parts are available. Unfortunately, none of the vehicles with the cooling fan module issue can be driven, so there are hundreds, if I had to guess, thousands of other vehicles in the same situation as Mrs.Houghton. While that does nothing to resolve her situation, it substantiates that Chrysler is at fault, rather than Safford, for not providing us with parts to fix the vehicle.

Mrs. Houghton was offered alternate transportation in the form of a rental car which would have been covered by Chrysler, but because of the age of the driver (son or daughter), she could not allow them to drive a rental, so she did not pick a rental vehicle up.

In terms of a resolution, the vehicle has been repaired since receiving the letter. Our parts department had received a fan module for a fleet vehicle which was in line for the parts before Mrs.Houghton. Because of other circumstances, the vehicle did not need the fan module as urgent as Mrs.Houghton, so the advisor handling her vehicle stepped in to request the part for Mrs. Houghton.

Typically vehicles do not take this long to repair, however, it is documented that Safford did everything within our realm of power, to ensure that Mrs.Houghton's vehicle was done as soon as possible. While I understand her frustration and certainly sympathize, Crhysler's lack of needed parts is the true reason why her vehicle was here for so long.

I live in Puerto Rico. My fan ceased just after Hurricane Irma. Then Maria hit us. Dealers are not working or receiving vehicles and all I read is that the fan is in back order. My Reny is barely a year old with about 17,000 miles. Luckily the banks gave a 3 month grace period. It would really suck to pay for an undrivable vehicle. The way things are going I will have to throw away the warranty and fix it myself.

FCA pulled the same non sense with the Town & County mini van ignition recall. No parts, ill prepared, and no repairs for months. Sounds like a pattern of behavior that unless the govt fines FCA, they don't response to problems.

I would love to see the letter you sent to States' Attorney.
