So I was admiring a Subi yesterday and talking with the owner who mentioned that he recently swapped in coil overs. I was wondering if this would be a viable option for the new renegade? I'm assuming you'd be able to change the height of the coil overs and fit slightly bigger tires. Maybe improve the ride quality if it is as bad as the one article says. What do you think? Do-able or am I off my rocker. ;)

It's just as doable as it is with any independent suspension. The limiting factor will be the stock upper and lower control arms and how much travel they allow and the fact that it'll have square wheel wells which won't allow that much bigger tires. Sure coilovers would give you a better ride Offroad but I doubt the ride will be that bad on road.

What Adam said. Totally doable and it'll be a lot easier if some of the aftermarket manufacturers get involved. If not, it can still be done but a lot more research will be needed to find out what will fit and what will work. As mentioned, your tire size will still be limited but really, that's okay with me. If I want to take on some really tough trails, I'll use one of my other Jeeps.

Those square wheel wells are depressing! Lol. So serious question, how would the control arms affect weather or not it would be able to easily do coil overs? (I know nothing about independent suspension)

Factory control arms are nor all weak and not setup for abuse. Ball joints are normally shitty and the. Bushings will fail.

Here is a factory control arm from a WK and below that is a boxed aftermarket lower for a Tacoma. You can see the difference in size and can imagine the strength difference.
