IMG_20170406_004908.jpg IMG_20170406_004834.jpg IMG_20170406_004738.jpg I've got Yakima Timberline towers, steel Core bars (50") and a Megawarrior cargo basket. I've used Yakima for years, pricey but bomber quality and I load it up. Noise begins after 55mph... fairly prominent at 75 but reduced with gear in basket... nothing the radio won't cover, just competes with the road noise of AT tires. Bungee cargo net and lock cores a must.

I've used Yakima for years with absolutely no issues, it's pricey but bomber quality (vinyl coated cross bars, quality powder coating, clean welds and hardware that protects the product. No mods needed) and I load it up. Noise begins after 55mph and increases to fairly prominent at 70mph but nothing that the radio won't cover and it just competes with the road noise of AT tires! Lol! Loading gear in it seems to lessen the noise. A bungee cargo net and lock cores are a must.

What length fairing did you end up using? I like that look and need something to help with the whistle.

On the subject of wind noise... I gained a drastic reduction in wind noise by moving my Megawarrior towards the rear of the vehicle 2 inches. Experiment with placement.

Well today I bit the bullet and got the Yakima Core Bars - what a difference. Very quiet even in the wind. I also gained a touch more clearance for the roof panels. The length is a bit wider than the Cargo Loc - and that makes it easier to load kayaks from the side. The Cargo Loc bolt had already significantly rusted after only a couple of months. I know this Rack will last for years. IMG_2261.JPG

Did you get the extension for this rack? I was also looking at getting the Curt Rack from amazon but was wondering if the extension would make it too long for the reny.

This is what I am getting, the Core bars and Timberline towers, went shopping yesterday and have been doing a ton of research....... and I think I may go with this basket that I love the look of, called Gorhino basket. I looked at the Thule, and the Yakimas, they were right next one another at the display at REI.... started feeling a pull towards the Yakima setup, and I always thought Thule was the only way to go! I am so glad to see your setup and your comments! Thank you!!!

If you're a member at REI you can get your money back if it isn't working for you. I've used Yakima for years and have never been disappointed... I have the Mega Warrior with extension on mine and get all my gear up there, love it. 20170726_133401.jpg

Awesome!! Why did you decide on the corbars as opposed to the jet streams? Do you have Mysky? How is wind noise? Are you happy with your setup, in general, any complaints? Sorry for all the questions, but I get super into it when I buy something like this... lol!! They are having 20% off labor day sale... so I will be saving a bit..

Lol! That's what this forum is for, I went with the Core because they are steel (more durable), no Mysky but I can wax the roof with the rack on - plenty of clearance between the roof rails and timberline towers. The bars alone were quiet - blended in with road noise, if you get a rack bringing it back from the front will eliminate noise, if you get a low frequency rumble at speed the faring from Yakima will eliminate that but you will get a slight wind noise off of it if it's right up front like mine (no choice, my rack is 72"). Yakima is pricey but high quality, well designed, durable and lots of accessories... never disappointed. You'll always be able to find parts. 20170619_193628.jpg 20170413_143111.jpg
