I noticed even on ebay, all the Jeep Renegade steering wheels have 3 blank control slots without buttons on the bottom right of the center ring. The Jeep Cherokee has the same style wheel with 3 buttons there for what looks like extra features with follow distance or something I haven't had in any of my cars before (didn't look it up, doesn't matter really). I was hoping some genius on the Toaster Forum figured out a way to add buttons and wire up controls for their lights, winch or anything really. Seems like a good project for this winter, to figure it all out. I currently just have my light bar switches next to the drive seat between the door frame and seat rails, after looking at all the switch panels out there, I really wasn't impressed with anything and seems like either I drill some holes in the dash to mount these or figure out how to add them to the steering wheel where those 3 unused button slots are waiting to be leveraged
All switches and relays are controlled by the canbus system as far as I know, if you want to utilize existing wires, the ECU needs a flash to turn on the intended feature. There is a write up on one of these forums on adding fog light switch by replacing the control with OEM one with a fog light button, he had to flash the ECU as well as add wires to the correct relay/fuse slot. In the case of steering wheel control switches, I suspect they will be difficult to utilize if they're made for additional cruise control features, I highly doubt there is any relay associated to the additional buttons, just signals to the controller...
