How I change/clean my Cabin Filter, step by step.

Setting up the Jeep Cabin filter replacement.

    1. Inventory your parts (New Filter or Cleaner and Filter Oil).
    2. Tools required, t25 (trox bit), 7mm socket and a panel trim tool (common #2 Screwdriver))

How to gain access to the Cabin Filter

    1. Remove the center counsel kick panel.
    2. Remove cover below the Glove Box.
    a. There is a push pin on the far side that need to be pulled straight down, and then the cover is pulled towards to seat to slide the cover off of the two (2) hooks.
    3. Remove the Glove Box side panel by prying gently with a panel trim tool (or screwdriver).
    4. Remove the one (1) T25 torx screw behind the side Glove Box side panel.
    5. Remove the three (3) T25 torx screws from the bottom front of the Glove Box.
    6. Remove the three (3) T25 torx screws from the top front of the Glove Box.

    ... to be continued

    7. CLOSE the Glove Box.
    8. Pull on the Glove Box to free it from the push pins that are holding it in place.
    9. Unplug the Glove Box light.
    10. The Cabin Filter access door is the honeycomb shaped cover. Remove the 7mm screw.
    11. Pull out slightly on the retaining clip on the right side of the filter cover.
    12. Pull the cabin filter out slightly inspecting for rubbish that could fall in the HVAC fan. If rubbish falls into the fan it should be removed or you will get unusual noises and vibrations when the fan runs.
    13. Remove the cabin filter.

** If you are replacing your cabin filter, proceed to step 18.
*** If you are cleaning a K&N reusable Cabin Filter, proceed to step 14.

    14. Gently knock the rubbish from the filter.
    a. Use the cleaning instruction that comes in the K&N Refresher Kit.
    b. In a shallow pan add warm water and a splash of Purple Power or equivalent.
    15. Soak the filter in the soapy water for about 10 minutes.
    16. Rinse with cool water.
    17. Allow to dry completely.
    18. Dampen the filter with Cabin Filter oil DO NOT over oil the filter and let stand for 10 minutes to allow for oil wicking.
    19. Slide the new/cleaned cabin filter in place with the arrow facing in the direction of air flow (air flow is from top to bottom).
    20. Install the Cabin Filter access door by placing the tab on the left side of the door into the slot and locking the clip on the right side of the access door. Install the 7mm screw.
    21. Hold the Glove Box near the dash and plug in the Glove Box light.
    22. Push the Glove Box in place until the push pin ‘click’ and hold the glove box in place.
    23. Install the three T25 torx screws in the bottom of the Glove Box.
    24. Open the glove box and install the top three T25 torx screws.
    25. Replace the T25 screw on the side of the Glove Box and replace the Glove Box side Panel.
    26. Hook the lower cover by the two hooks in the front and lift the back of the cover up so that the push pin and secured in place.
    27. Replace the center counsel kick panel.

Enjoy improved air flow from a new or refreshed Cabin Filter.
