So I've noticed a noise from the transmission. This noise is generated when, after coasting, one moderately accelerates. Like, approaching a light that's red, but the light turns green before getting there, so one accelerates.

The noise reminds me of the sound of pinging that carbureted engines would make when the accelerator pump enriches the mixture to accelerate, but it only happens for a moment and doesn't sound like it's from that high up.

I'm not calling this definitively something wrong, given that it's a nine-speed transmission for all I know it's a series of solenoid valves being shifted into the new configuration, but figured it would be good to know if anyone else is experiencing this.

Thanks. We may do that. We've got a recall notice for the lug wrench to address, so might bring that up.

My vehicle does the same exact thing. Happens around 35 to 40 mph if I come off the gas pedal and then apply it again slightly. Last a second or two and goes away.

Spoke with the wife, we've both got time off during the christmas-newyears span, we'll probably take it in at that time.

Sounds like what my dealership calls a spark knock that is "not an issue"

They clearly dont know what a spark knock does to an engines internals.

Though I have no experience with this in a Jeep, bumping up the octane of the fuel may reduce predetonation knocks. This is particularly important for turbo motors as the added compression may anticipate the ignition timing.

Just so we don't get too carried away, I have not yet established what the sound is.

I used to drive a '97 Dodge Stratus. The A604 transmission it was equipped with made all sorts of noises as the various solenoid valves actuated. Coupled with the sound from this Renegade seemingly only happening at a narrow range of speed during specific operation I'm not inclined to attribute it to anything in particular until someone else has checked.

How is it going with your jeep? My 2016 jeep renegade does the same thing!! At 5000 miles! I can go any speed coast for 15 seconds then apply the gas and it knocks. I've been to the service center 6 times they changed the belt tensioner and belt serpentine. Unfortunately it didn't work, next week they're planning on changing the belt tensioner again .Does anyone know what it could be? The dealerships service said they won't be able to fix it if it's not the belt tensioner, they say the noise is not significant !!

Had this been solved? My 2015 Trailhawk is doing the same thing. I just bought it used with under 50k miles. Ive had it a couple weeks and it started it about 3-4 days ago .

Were they able to find the problem? My 2015 is also doing this.

No they never found the problem they sent a technician from Chrysler that reported it is the vacuum pump, but they refused to fix it because they said it's working properly. Then called it a common characteristic of the vehicle and told me there was nothing more they could do for me
I then filed lemon law and won! I represented myself through arbitration.
In my state lemon law requires the car be less than two years old and it been in the shop three times for the same issue and still exists or over 30 days in the shop and problem still exist.
It was a long road but is possible. Research lemon law in your state.
    Good luck
