I noticed after some intense rain that my front roof panel was wet - and that I was getting water staining on the back edge. I took it into the dealer who informed me that if the "drains were clogged" that it was not a warranty service - I would have to pay for it. Since I have had the Reni for only about 9 months I was sure I couldn't clog the drains - but apparently I did - to the tune of about $130 bucks. Where are these elusive drains and what can one do to prevent them from clogging? Is there a way for an owner to clean them out themselves? Thanks for any insights!

Do a search. Others reported similar problem and jeep responded there are no drains. The roof is sealed. Sounds like your dealer doesn't know that.

I wonder what they did that cost $130 bucks then? They told me it is the biggest issue on the roofs and that warranty doesn't cover it.

I emailed the Service Director and he gave me a detailed listing of what they had to do. Apparently pine needles are the culprit. I have huge pines on my property - the pine needles land in the channels and were even inside the overhead trim inside. They had to remove that interior trim to get at all the little buggers - it was packed full.

I have never taken the panels off and have never had the roof open when I have been driving out in the woods so it was a surprise to me that needles could get that far into the system.

There are no drains - just channels that run down the A pillar. They are built to transport water, but apparently not to transport pine needles. Personally I think it is a design flaw - that a vehicle designed to be off road should have an issue with something so common as pine needles. The Service Director is giving me some free services and agrees about the issue but he is between a rock and a hard place - Jeep says this is not warranted.

For now I am parking as far as I can from any pine trees.

Perhaps Jeep could reconsider it's position since the Service teams are aware of it and it is a common issue for them to deal with.

Or maybe I dunno .... Design a drain for it? Lol... I don't know why they didn't put a drain.. maybe mysky was not a original plan for the design or something
