    Same problem here at 42000mi.
Called FCA and might be eligible for cost assistance?
Crossing my fingers they cover total cost due to the many premature failures.

Has anyone had any luck with getting FCA to cover this problem out of warranty? My wife's 2015 just started doing this with just over 40k miles on it, so of course it's out of warranty. From what I've seen online it's a bit of a nightmare to replace this part as well, so I'm not looking forward to having to do it myself.

If not I saw an aftermarket one on amazon for like $98 bucks and said it was a plug and play.

So, how much pull does Kori, Jeep Social Care Specialist have with getting this, obviously quite common and expensive, issue resolved in a manner that doesn't end up having Jeep customers losing their shirt over an obviously faulty design?

Add me to the growing list of annoyed Jeep owners.

In August 2018, my A/C compressor crapped out. Thankfully, I was under the 36k-mile mark and it was replaced under warranty. However, I started noticing a hot smell within a matter of days. I couldn't pin down where it was coming from, there were no visible signs, and the temperature gauge remained between 190-210. The service technicians had no suggestions when the Renegade was taken in for routine maintenance and I was advised to continue driving it. The hot smell has been present now for almost 15k miles.

Fast-forward to the last couple weeks and the fan started making noise. It was still functioning, but it was making the same noise as the one in the video posted earlier in this thread. I verified nothing was contacting it and and wondered if it had to be removed during the A/C compressor work and wasn't properly reinstalled. It was a long shot, but since the Jeep needs an oil change and tire rotation, I requested they take a look at everything this Tuesday (earliest available). I reminded them of the hot smell so they could start connecting dots to find the problem.

Fast-forward again to earlier this evening. I loaded the Renegade down with groceries only to start it up and see a check engine light. I pulled into the auto parts store across the lot and they pulled a "PO481 Fan 2 Control Circuit" code. I immediately scrolled to the temperature gauge and sure enough, the temperature was climbing into the 230 range. I immediately drove to the dealership, which was luckily only 4-5 miles away. As soon as the Renegade was moving, the temperature began to drop. I arrived at closing time, so the service advisor took my info and told me he would call me with a quote tomorrow. He advised me to drive it home as long as I didn't plan to let it idle. To be clear, there are no issues as long as there is adequate air flow. I drove straight home, roughly 45 miles, and my gauge never topped 194.

Much like others in this thread, I'm also out of the bumper-to-bumper warranty with 49k on the odometer and I really have a sour taste in my mouth for Jeep now. Before the Renegade, I had a 2013 Wrangler Moab that needed both rear axle seals and a water pump in the first 30-35k miles. I grew tired of it and traded for the Renegade and so far I'm having issues nearly as frequently. I know repairs are to be expected at some point, but 49k miles is too early for owners to be forking over $500+ to repair obviously defective factory parts. Through the years, I've driven several other brands to 150k+ miles on nothing but oil changes, filters, wiper blades, and brake pads.

The numbers do not lie; the fan issue is widespread and FCA needs to step up and fix their problem.

EDIT: I just treated myself to a prime grade ribeye, took a few minutes to calm myself, and conducted a little research. I found aftermarket replacement fans for $70-$125 online. I'm probably just going to replace it myself and drop the Renegade like it's on fire (because let's be honest, it almost is).

EDIT 2: I waited until 4:00pm today before finally giving up and calling the service department for the quote. They want $434 for the repair. The service advisor says it's roughly $200 for the fan and $200 for two hours of labor. I think I'll be ordering a fan online shortly.

I just had my radiator fan replaced under the recall. It took 1 ½ hours for the dealer to replace it. If anyone had their fan replaced prior to the recall you should contact your dealer. FCA is refunding owners who had paid to have their radiator fan fixed.
