I stopped by my local Lawn and Power Sports dealer, he said plastic portable fuel cans are now banned, per DOT new rules. This would mean those portable externally attached "Cam Cans" ,would be illegal, as well as 5 gallon or less PLASTIC fuel containers. Has anyone else heard this ? I see new " old style " round metal fuel cans on display, with yellow plastic spout/ funnels, so there must be something to this.
I would say Memorex, I tried looking up 'plastic fuel can ban' on a few search engines and the only thing that popped up is where to buy plastic cans. Or perhaps it's just a NY thing maybe?
Just so we are clear, Cam Cans are sold as non-flammable fluid containers. "Note that none of Daystar's Cam Cans are certified to hold fuel or flammable liquids of any kind." If someone puts fuel in a cam can, they are breaking the law. That does not make a Cam Can illegal.
I was lumping "Cam Cans " with " RotoPax" containers. The Lawn tractor/Power Sports dealer might have a written copy of this "maybe only NY" law...
