I just found this pic on Google thought it looked pretty sweet. Out of all the pics I could find it's the only one I saw with any modifications.
See!!! Now that's what I'm talking about!! I think Sharkey had mentioned this rendering and man, that's about how I'd like to see our Renegade turn out. Thanks for posting this up
How do you all think the wheel base will affect off road handling? Do you think it can go where a wrangler could (obviously with a lift) or do you think it will be a vehicle destined to light trailing I'm saying this to bring in the topic of a lift kit, bigger wheels, if i get one, i want to lift and put on bigger tires, but obviously there is geometry behind it, sorry if this is the wrong topic, but it's an upgrade that might be first, so let's talk about it!
I think it will be hard to put a lift on this Jeep. I'd use mine for light wheeling. The kind of stuff the wife likes to do. We have family in Colorado and she likes to go explore but likes mainly staying on the easy and moderate trails. Most of the moderates I've been on in CO would probably be wheeled on by this little Jeep.
The wheel base is fine and if anything, will allow you to wiggle around obstacles instead of needing to take them head on BUT, where the Renegade will most likely lack is in torque and flex. It'd need a lower low range and maybe lockers to make up the difference of not having solid axles that can articulate. I would say that for the most part, you'd be limited to lite to moderate wheeling only or at least, until or unless manufacturers start coming out with components that'll help it along.
Well my girl has been eyeing the new renegades, so we might trade in her veloster for it (especially if the mpg is the same or better) but I'd like to modify it to the point where she could wheel with me on lighter stuff and take bypasses while I roll thought the tougher stuff With that said, tires/suspension . See what roof rack options there are, and I beleive I saw double tow hooks in back? Maybe be able to make a tire carrier/stinger from the tow hook mounts? Can't wait to physically see this thing!!
Whatever I do, it'll be light. Hopefully aluminum parts will be made. I need to keep the mpg as high as I can..
I think that's the plan for me as well. I want it a bit more capable but, without sacrificing too much of what it really is. I have my other Jeeps to get out and do more.
Snorkel…on Sharkey's. But rather than wait for some aftermarket company's bolt-on crap, I'm going to build my own out of 4" PVC drain pipe.
That looks pretty damn good in my opinion. Certainly good enough for the ski hill and front country camping trips or a high school kid looking to stand out from the crowd a bit.
Back on topic, I've been having a hard time finding ANY decent tires in a 215 or even a 225. I think the only way we're going to be able to run bigger and more aggressive tires on a Renegade is to get it to clear at least 30" tires.
discount tire has the Duratrac and the BFG KM2 in a 225/75r16 which would work for the base model but not the trailhawk sadly
