This is what you get trying to go on memory at 50, I remembered something about grinding Again, these are steel wheels and I can't imagine how any aluminum wheel would fit even with a wheel spacer. While you could easily grind the brake calipers down a bit to offer more clearance, you would still run into an issue with the wheels being too close to the struts. As you can see below, the wheel just barely clears but your tire would sit extremely close to the strut. I know that leaned me away from a 16" wheel. I had enough tranny problems to deal with and didn't want any more issues.
What does the material have to do with fitment? Also, if the offset is enough it mimics spacers, so the wheel will clear the strut just fine. You are probably thinking of the White THawk on here, he chose to grind his calipers but was running 15" steel wheels.
