So I just got the Daystar sliders for my 2016 Latitude 1.4L 4x4 and the passenger side went on just fine. However after removing the factory trim piece on the driver's side, I noticed a plate bolted to the rear of the front wheel well behind the liner (see the attached photo). Does anyone know what this plate is for? I removed it because the slider would not go on without cutting either the slider or the plate. Is this plate something critical that I should trim and put back on? I just think that it is weird that there was not a matching one on the passenger side.
I remember seeing a discussion about this piece before. I can't find the thread but I believe it is a safety upgrade resulting from crash testing. You might want to check with your dealer to find out exactly what it is (if they know). I will keep checking for the thread. It might be on another forum.
Check out this link. Look for the Hyper Green pictures. His write up mentions this plate and he didn't have to remove it. Maybe you could contact the op. https://toasterjeep.com/index.php?threads/daystar-jeep-renegade-rock-sliders-installed.939/page-3
