With me being a newbie there are obviously a lot of things that I do not yet know about the world of off-roading. One thing I have learned though is the need to air down and up the tires. So I was wondering if there was any particular pump or air compressor that y'all would recommend?

All i can tell you is dont go cheep. I have a 12 volt hi pressure pump. Its 15 years old and paid $50 back then. Good air pumps come eather hi volume or hi pressure. I needed hi pressure for my inflated water toys. Now your jeep needs only 45 psi so volume would work for you but fill slower. Air compressor at pepboys ect are impressive but junk. If you have some room get a power pack were if you need to jump your jeep or need some 12 v or ac power your covered

Depending on what you're hoping to do with your Renegade, you'll most likely NOT need to air down your tires at all. There are 2 big reasons to air down and the first is to give you a wider footprint to give you more traction on the rocks or in deep sand, snow or sometimes even mud. The second is to soften up your ride. While the Renegade is a capable off road vehicle, I seriously doubt that most people will use it to go rock crawling or to push it into terrain where airing down is necessary to do. And, when it comes to softening up your ride, the Renegade comes with IFS/IRS suspension and at least for me, I have found it to ride way more comfortably at full street pressure than a Wrangler aired down.

That being said, if you still want to air down, it's not a bad thing to do and I would have to agree with what was already mentioned - try not to get anything too cheap or else you'll regret it. Although, airing up a tiny tire like the Renegade has won't take nearly as long as a 37" or 40" tire and so you really won't need to get the top of the line compressor either.

Thanks y'all! Really appreciate the input! What other things would you recommend to keep on hand when hitting the trails?

Assuming you have tow points, I would highly recommend a tow strap. Also, a small shovel could come in handy. A tire repair kit is always great to have as well as a first aid kit. Of course, this is to say nothing about tools. I could go on and on :)

I carry my old stand by compressor and a HF power pack. They saved my butt 3 times going cross country and i must have jumped 25 folks in the past 3 years owning one. You must follow the start up instructions to the letter or you will trash the internal battery. Most folks don't read you must pre charge the unit 48 hours before useing it. And then its good to go and only simple maintain of once a month to top it off. You can hard wire or plug it into a socket in your jeep to allway be ready. Just this week i jumped a mom with 3 babies in a mini van. There battery went and in vegas your battery last maybe 3 years from the heat and wiper blades a year. Anyway my wife calmly told her we would help. She's crying no one would help her aaa she did not have and services wanted $50 to jump her and she was broke. Anyway i got her started in 2 minutes got a hug and my wife got one also. I dont preach religion but as a ret cop for 26 years and a simi regular churchgoer I beleive in helping anyone it like paying foward. If you go off roading and someone is trying to winch themselves out you can kill a battery fast. So helping someone it a tight spot makes you feel good. And like this group someone will be there to help you
