Is it me or are others also annoyed that the Auto-stick feature doesn't allow you to override to goto different gearings. I thought that is what the Auto-stick was for? Example: I was wiggling around on the surface streets of Sin City and wasn't going too fast but wanted to upshift to 4th gear to 5th gear. It didn't let me even though I was pulling the stick back constantly like I needed to eject out of my driver seat in a Bondmobile. Other Jeeps with the Auto-stick will do so without a problem and if you go down speed it will downshift automatically which I understand as how it's supposed to work, but the Renegade wants to rebel against it lol...namesake...I love it.
Don't know if I've had any issues like that with my Renegade. If anything, I find that the manual shift works better than on my 2012 JK.
I have had different Auto-stick on different vehicles and when I want to shift even if I'm not at the "optimal" gearing it would still let me. Understand that I don't do this all the time and I don't intend to do this in extreme cases to wear out the tranny. It's just that I'm used to engine breaking and stuff.
Just went up to Mt. Charleston here in Vegas. Used auto-stick. Definitely limits my shifts up and down per software and mapping, I'm assuming. Also, when I downshift on some gears I have a surge of power and acceleration instead of engine brake. Not very fun at all.
I shall call my downshift a new name. Instead of engine break it will now be called... RAMMING SPEED!!!
I have the same issue. I live in the Rockies, and on the passes I have to watch my (Manual Mode) shifting. The speed increase is a bit scary if you're not expecting it. (has to be something with the gear ratios on the 9spd trany)
I wonder if this is on the list of things to address when they have the time to do so? Or we complain? Or someone gets in an accident? Or when someone dies???
After driving mine for a week, I gave up on figuring out how to deal with the 9-speed manual mode. It should be named "Automatic/illusion-of-free-will" transmission instead of Automatic/Manual transmission. It's best left in "Auto", but even then, Auto lags big time during sudden acceleration.
Yup. I've noticed that in Auto, when you're at a complete stop it starts on 2nd gear for smoother acceleration. When I know I need to pep things up to get out of crazy intersections at full stop I goto auto-stick and manually put it into 1st. Check it out next time. It's fun
