I was wondering if any one has installed a CB Radio in their Renegade. I thought about mounting one in the arm rest but I couldnt find one small enough. Any one have any thoughts about a good place to mount one ? I want to keep the interior clean looking so I want to keep it kind of hidden. I was thinking possibly between the drivers seat and the B pillar some where. Any thoughts ?

I picked up a Midland Micro Mobile Portable CB as it's very small and plugs right into the accessory port. It also has a connection that allows you to attach it to a standard coax cable and I bought a Wilson Little Wil magnetic antenna to go with it. Of course, if needed, you can use the CB as a handheld unit using rechargeable batteries or standard AA's.

You must not be a ham opperator. Why did you choose a cb. Cb has limitations im a licence ham opp and a fcc ve. I supervisor grade and give tests to those looking to get an ham. My club in las vegas that i belong to also give classes to learn to get an opperate a radio. Your cb is limited, if your running in a club setting an advance cb would be getting a good gmrs walkie talkie you could get 15 plus miles and have over 100 personal chanels were club members could talk simi between members. If you get a licence entry level you could run a 2 meeter/70 cent meeter walkie talkie and talk around the world as long as your able to hit a good repeter. I chat every day on a $53.00 wt. and talk all over the world. And i have radios that go for thousands and do the same. If your useing your radio for life saveing events dont rely on cb. Unless you installing an illegal trucker unit kicking out 100 plus watts of power. All cb radios are limited to 7 watts. If your wanting detail info and live by vegas im KG7URO

Yeah I would like to get into Ham..Both my father mother and grandfather had ham radios for as long as I can remember. In fact as a kid prior to cell phones that was essentially our cell phone hahah. I went with CB just for off roading to to talk to a spotter etc. I would like to get a ham radio eventually but I looked into it and I couldnt find a place to had the tests on the weekend. I work during the week so its hard for me to find time.

I live in Vegas give me an area were you live and I'll find out we're you can get a class and take a test. There's no morse code so self study on a tec ticket is easy. I fact so easy the cub scouts have a special merit badge to get a ham ticket. The last weekend in April/may Nevada is hosting the state ham fest at station casino. I will be doing walk in testing. Fee is $15.00 and that goes to the FCC .we all give up free time to help everyone. A book to study goes $35. Get the right book from Amazon the test is only 35 questions choose a-d

For any member who thinks they can self study this web site is free. I personally used this site foe my tec, general, and extra. After reading the questions you can self test. Its only 35 easy questions to get a tec. If you email me with a city i can go to my fcc data base and hopefully find you aclub. Most off road groups have members who are ham opps. Search rescue, every emergency cd opperations have ham opps. When huracain sandy hit no cell phones or police fire radios worked. Ham opperatiors set up our radios because we dont rely on hi tec computer just old fashion radio know how. So you probley know someone and not relize there an opperator.

greetings, do you have a renegade?
have you installed HF equipment in it?
I just bought one and am having difficulty with RF getting into the jeeps airbag system!
any help out there? Dealer says those are the breaks, nothing can be done.

I just bought a trailhawk kl sorry but as a ham opp and a ve there's problems installing hf into new cars. I'm running a yasue 857d and a screwdriver antenna. Grounding is a must. There's not enuff steel in new cars on my gt I had to install webbing ground straps on each corner of my hatch a strap from the body to engine and the radio must be grounded. Don't rely on a mounting bracket you need a ground . And a good ground for your coax. What type of antenna are you running and your mount. Comet makes a good lip mount I used it but needed to run web grounding straps. Also is your coax coiled forming a choak killing your swr. As far as rf I'm guessing your keying your mic and throwing a carrier that is interfering with an air bag light? That's coax ,check for a break in the wire your pl 259 is it in good shape and soldered correct. So many thing can go wrong but with out seeing it or knowing more I'm just throwing out a bowel of nuts.

Thanks for the tips, I've got all my grounding straps ready to go I've tried switching coax and different mounts. Just hoping you might have found a good place on the body for a mount. I hate to use the rack on the top or a triple magnet mount but that may be my only recourse. I use the same radio and have a little Tarheel 2. I also have a set of ham sticks and have used them for the last four years on other vehicles very successfully. I used the comet lip mount on the tailgate bottom but there's too much metal alongside the antenna to get a good SWR, too much reflection. My Renegade is a lease so I won't be drilling too many holes. I do not have a trailer hitch. Any thoughts or ideas? Wayne
