I see an old thread about CB Radios and I wanted to start a "Show us your rigs" thread along with discussion about mounting ideas, ground etc.

I like to do APRS when I'm oot and aboot, and I like the emergency communication capabilities of having an all band\mode rig. I'll probably go with a permanently mounted VHF\UHF antenna and carry an Alex Loop, Random Longwire, BuddiPole something like that for when I want to do digital modes on HF or have to use HF to get help.

I'm still in my planning phases, but I thought I'd see what the rest of you are up to.

When I installed my in-bumper trailer hitch I found first that there was a lot of empty space on my '15 Trailhawk behind the cargo area interior panels, and that these cavities abutted the the back sheet metal under the plastic bumper cover.

Given the design of the dash it is not conducive to using a conventional mobile rig. You'll need to look up temperatures, but if a radio with a remote display/faceplate, handmic, and speaker won't overheat when tucked into that cavity, then you could place a radio in the one in the right rocker, and you could create some kind of mount that would thread into the euro recovery hole in the right side of the rear bumper. If you do it right you could make one that could be removed and tuck the antenna into the bumper cover when not in use.

The only hole you'd have to drill would be under the bumper cover where you'd go from the cavity to the area under the cover, and you could probably find a rubber body plug for a cable that would prevent moisture intrusion.

I have, for vhf/UHF I think that's a great parking garage friendly setup.

This is the bracket in the photo. I actually just bought one last night, it was shipped this morning. I'll definitely be posting up a review once I get it all rigged up! I'm just doing a CB setup for now, even though I have my HAM license. Just using it for keeping in touch on the trail mostly, and my buddies don't have their HAM tickets.

Only issues is I have no idea how I'm going to run the coax up. I'm guessing I'll be routing it into the back hatch and up through the pillars, but I've never wired up anything in a vehicle before. Luckily my dad is a big radio guy, so he should be able to help me get it set up!

Would love to see some pictures or video on actually mounting the bracket.
