I'd like to black out above the doors (like the TH has). Should I do vinyl or plastidip?

    Like the title says.

My Renegade is in the shop until the 20th. (uninsured driver hit me six days after buying it...)

Once I get it back, I think this is something I'd like to do. I saw a user here used black vinyl which seems super easy, but I'm not sure how much something like that would cost. Nobody makes it so it would have to be custom cut.

On the other hand, I could plastidip it myself.

Also planning on getting vinyl to do the hood cowl, so it would be nice to make sure they both match.

    What do y'all think?

Go with the vinyl. Much stronger. Don’t buy the cheap stuff off eBay though. That stuff can ruin your paint.

The vinyl on the hood is available from a few sources, but for the roof I've heard of a few people finding someone who does vinyl wraps on cars to do it. Not only have I read about it on the forum but here in Las Vegas some folks do white roof wraps like on an FJ... with the shop you get warrantee and follow-up service like on a tint job.

Yeah. I picked out the one I want on my hood on amazon. Definitely thinking I'm gonna take it to a pro to have above the doors done.

Anybody know a ballpark price for something like that?

I would expect $80-$120 depending on the installer.

I’ve been thinking about the same thing.. I got the hood cowl done at a local shop already and think the black above the doors would look so great.

What color rene do you have?

I think it would look great! I would recommend going to a shop and getting it wrapped ... I thought about doing the hood myself, and while it would’ve been cheaper, I didn’t trust myself [emoji23] too afraid of messing up. I would call around to local shops to get the cheapest bid!

Also, I was told the satin finish was a lot easier to care for than the matte. Something else to consider.

Interesting tidbit about the satin vs. matte. I'll be sure to ask about it when I talk to the vinyl people.

This is the hood decal I want.

I'm pretty confident that I'll be able to apply it myself. My only concern is making sure the actual vinyl matches what they would put over the doors. Would they be able to recreate the above design using their own (likely higher quality) material?

I wanted matte but took the shops advice. Satin and matte look similar, imo. He said that the matte just shows more oil and dirt than the satin.

Ooo, I love that cutout shows your Jeep color! That’ll look awesome.

Good luck with this! Post pictures when you get it done!

Highly recommend having a local graphic design shop do it. The Avery Dennison matte black is awesome. For my 2 layer hood they charged me 200 so it obviously depends where you go, but I would guess around 5 or 600 for both.

Local place in Richmond quoted me $160 to vinyl wrap the roof between the doors. We do have MySky. It's on the to-do list.
